My first impression is that Pets is TOTALLY awesome and it's what an EP should be. I only got a few hours of game time in last night but that is going to change.  I made a single Sim with a dog and turned off aging so I could just explore and take my time. I love how the dogs roll on their backs while sleeping, just like real dogs.

The collection helper now includes help in looking for the minor animals.

Did I miss this before but is the random name selector in CAS new? I never noticed it before.

I've got to get my work done this morning so I can get back to exploring!

I am really pleasantly surprised by Pets.  I dusted off Eolan Fae from my failed Fae Immortal Dynasty and set her loose in Appaloosa Plains with a LTW to collect 20 minor pets.  So far she has collected a crow named Shadow and a rare turtle of some kind named Turbo.  The thing that amazed me was how attached I became to these little pets.  I think with the minor pets you are able to sell them, but I just can't bring myself to do that - it feels wrong somehow.  I can see it now, she's going to end up as the crazy animal lady in town.  One thing I am having a little difficulty with is spotting the minor pets in the wild.  I'm excited to hear that the Collection Helper LTR has been updated to help with this task.

I started another file with a townie (Valleri Chandra) and she adopted a puppy.  I love the little furball, she is so adorable and so real.  I find myself playing at a much more leisurely pace so I can spend as much time as possible with the animals.  I'm not sure how I feel about being able to play as the animal - it makes them far too well behaved.  I would love it in real life if I could take control of my dogs and make them want to pee when it was convenient for me instead of at 3am when my husband and I are both sound asleep.   ;D

I can't wait to explore some more!

I am absolutely enjoying this expansion pack - and considering I only purchased the game a few weeks ago, this was a nice addition.  I only play with Ambitions and Pets, so there may be more that I'm missing.

Anyway, my new sim has a cat named Duchess... who has been quite incredible.  She began with the Genius, Hunter, and Proud traits.  Through training, she has added *three* additional traits: Neat, Non-Destructive, and Adventurous.  I was a little surprised that pets could have six traits, though.  Additionally, she just reached level 8 hunter, and when I asked her to go hunt a beetle, it went to map mode to show me where beetles were located in the town to collect them.  As a tip, giving the beetles my cat has stalked and taking them to the Science Lab to 'Donate to Science' is a nice way to make cash.  And as an Inventor, my sim needs all the help he can get.

Additionally, some of the new furniture and objects appeal to my design aesthetic, so it's been nice to see it (particularly one new Abstract pattern, which I have managed to put in multiple places.)  The starting house was spacious, and easily adaptable to additions without taking away from the flow of the house overmuch.

Finally, I haven't seen the Unicorn, but I have been excited by the raccoon, which Duchess fought, the rare water beetle, which Duchess brought back, and the stray dog, at which Duchess hissed.

I had been postponing getting the Sims for a long time, because I wasn't sure if I'd really like it or that I would quickly lose interest.  After playing a friend's copy for some time, I can safely say that's not going to happen, and that the Pets EP was an excellent place for me to jump on.

(as an aside - love the site - been lurking for awhile - thank you for all your hard work)

Welcome to the forum, Noshmek!

I'm also surprised that pets can have 6 traits but it seems they gain new traits with training, which is certainly a reason to spend the time and train them.

Enjoy the forum.  :)

This is a random question but has the cap of amount of people in the household went up? Or is it still just the 8 sims.

Still 8 Sims and now it's also 6 pets.   Big Pets, like horses, dogs and cats, have a separate line of squares on the UI next to the one that shows your Sim's faces.

@Noshmek - you are the first person I've heard of that has gotten their pet to actually train hunting.  I wonder if the fact that I have all the EPs & SPs is what's causing the problem.

It's complicated but it went up. 8 max people, 6 max pets, 10 max total if I remember correctly? Someone correct me if I messed something up.

I read somewhere that it may be to due to the fact that my cat has the Hunter trait.

My Cat had the hunter trait and it still didn't raise above the first bar in the skill signifier.  I have a picture in the Dog Training thread showing it off.

Thanks guys. I'm still watching carefully. If anyone has reports on how the game works on a Macbook Pro with one of the problem child graphics cards give me a holler. I'm not buying until I know it won't kill my game.

It could be wrong but I read on a bug thread that it have something to do with the spell book.

I remember how the first time I opened Twinbrook and read the names of some people and it made me giggle for a bit.   EA has done it again with the very first paparazzi I saw today was named Li Lo.

And is it just me or is there a very large amount of pregnant Sims in the beginning of this new town?  I've counted five: Jazlynn Parrot,  Patricia Bedlington, Imogen Pelly, Juanita Blanco and I just saw Cheyenne Fox acting strange and getting sick.

Right? For like the first week, there was at least one announcement of a birth on the newspaper every day. For a second I thought the town would get overpopulated.

If it's anything like SV then they will all move out in a couple of generations.   ;D

I don't have the spell book in my town anywhere and my dog couldn't raise her hunter skill.
