How to prevent long load times
« on: October 16, 2011, 04:49:51 PM »
I am wondering, how in my dynasty can I prevent terribly long loading/saving times that i know some people experience? I have absolutely no interest in having to wait half and hour or more to save and load the game.

I am at the third gen as teen. I play in SV. The house that the family lives in has one flier above ground, which covers over 2/3 of the lot. Also there is a very small basement. I plan on only adding one more floor.
I want to know, at what point do load times drastically increase? And how can I keep from getting lengthy load times?

I haven't been able to prevent long load times, but I have figured out that the game will continue to load while it's minimized. In my larger files, I always choose the town and once the loading screen comes up, I minimize it and surf the web and just check the game periodically.

@moons: so if I press the volume button on my computer it will minimize it but still load?
@gleek: yes, but that's different. I'm not interested in deleting files in some obscure folder, I'm asking about ingame things that I can do to prevent it.

Oh, and I should have mentioned that currently my load times are about 3 minutes or less.

So I went out of my way to make that link for nothing?

Volume? What does that have to do with minimizing the screen?

Sometimes changing volume results in a computer going to desktop. (Not crashing)
Your best bets are to build small, clear memories, delete DCBackup, (move) Screenshots, Clear Caches, all of which, I assume, are in Gleek's link.

No it was still helpful.
And on my computer that's the only way to minimize it.

Okay, and how small is considered small? Would two stories be "small"?
And I can delete all of the DCBackup? Like the entire folder?

Yes, all of DCBackup.

For small, if the lot takes a while to render (everything to appear and all the textures in place), then it's large. 2 Stories is OK depending on the size of each story.

Mine seems to render pretty fine.
If I have a lot of stuff built on the properties that I own would that slow down the load times?

Don't clear DCBackup if you have Hidden Springs. I can confirm that it will mess up the Fountain of Youth to where it won't work at all.

But yes, if you minimize it however you need to on your computer, it will still load.

Little too late now but it's okay I don't have Hidden Springs.

I found that in my dynasty games having a very basic house and lot helped with the load times. In both my dynasties I built the houses by the first generation and pretty much kept it as it was. My load time was around five minutes at the start of my dynasties and around ten minutes when I reached the last couple of generations.

Thank you so much Ratchie that is what I was hoping to hear. I'm going to do the same, as soon as I finish the build which will be soon I won't really add on to it at all.

When I got to generation 8 in my dynasty, it started taking any where from ten to twenty five minutes for the game to load and I had everything deleted, even got rid of some of my processes in my task manager.  I wish there was a way to reduce load time, but just keeping your files emptied sometimes helps.
