Putting down a new lot and Disaster strikes!
« on: October 12, 2011, 10:33:30 AM »
This has happened to me twice lately. I take a house from the library and place it for my sim to move in. When she purchased the house she got a message "This house has a bug infestation. Do you what the challenge of cleaning it up?. And another time "This house was hit by a meteor. Do you want the challenge of rebuilding?" Each time I said no to the challenge; but, this hasn't happened before and now I've had it twice.

Has anyone else had this happen?

Once. And I wish I would have said yes. Because that makes the hidden NPC Science Geek visiting your house. I had the challenge according to ghost on the lot and do I want to clean it up. I'd say no so the ghost stick around.

I had it several times, including the first time I installed and played Sims 3 - I said Yes then and most of the time later. First time it was bug challenge, I also had garbage (rats running around), plumbing (all plumbing objects broken) and the meteor one. NPC always show up to help you (maid, repairman, science geek - depending on the challenge).

Wow, I have never heard of this happening and I've been playing Sims 3 for about 2 years! What are all the different messages?

I think this might be from Ambitions? Correct me if I'm wrong.
I have it happen sometimes when I start a new game. Never from moving to a new lot. Now that I think about it, it's been ages since my last "challenge"... I've had the ghosts ans water damage (I guess all the toilets & sinks were broken, what a pain, I usually just cancel these.  ;D)

Really? I got Ambitions when it first came out. I wonder why this has never happened to me. I must've started at least 20 games since Ambitions, probably more. I want it to happen now!

It will only happen in a new game you start in fresh neighborhood. I even got it 2 times in custom built worlds, and in SV and BP. It was always a starter house - not shore if that is relevant. It's been a while since I got it. Some things in game are just random, and this one is one of those.

Hmm. I start new games in new worlds all of the time. Does it only occur when you move new CAS sims into an existing house? This is what I do 90% of the time. Or can it happen by just selecting a household (for the first time) in a new town?

This has been part of the game since it came out.  There are particular houses that will offer these challenges.  The very first time I opened the game, made my first Sim, and bought her a house, it happened and I declined the challenge.  It's just something to give you a little more to do.  Like if it's bugs, you call the exterminator and that's the end of it.  The house I used that had the challenge was the one in Sunset Valley that looks like a mobile home.  I can't think of the name of it.  It's across the street from the monotone house and next door to Erin Kennedy, I think.

Man! What's wrong with my game? I never get stuff like this. No disasters, no bug infestations, no meteors. I want something out of the ordinary to happen.

@ Pam

So does that mean it's not random? Do you know if it's the lot it associated with, or the house? Like, if you deleted the mobile home and built your own house then moved a sim in, would the challenge still be available? I'm so curious about this now because it's never happened to me.

It happen more than once in Twinbrook for me. I always use Swampy. In Sunset Valley it was the little house with the pink lawn ornaments.

Same goes for me! This has never happened to me and I start a LOT of new saves because I get bored easily. Never a meteor strike either. :(

This is the first time it ever happened to me and in one week twice. It was a new game each time where I used edit town to place a house and then pulled my sim from the library to put i n the house.

I didn't realise NPCs would come and help. Maybe I'll take the challenge next time (if there is a next time).

With the ghost challenge both times I get a uncut pink diamond! With the meteor challenge you get a lot of space rocks. But the house is very filthy and need a lot of cleaning. These rocks are nice for a poor sim  ;)
