Re-Entering Cheats Tip
« on: March 02, 2010, 02:44:38 PM »
I haven't noticed this mentioned before, but if you need to use the last cheat code you used, when you open the cheat window with Shift-Ctrl-c, hit the cursor up key and will put in the last code used which can save a lot of typing.

Like if I was working on the ground elevation I might have to use constrainfloorelevation off.
I would then do what I needed to then re-open the cheat window hit the cursor up key and it would put the constrainfloorelevation off back in the cheat window with the cursor at the end of the line so all I have to do now is hit Backspace twice, type on and hit enter to turn it back on.

Oh, and yes, I know you usually see it as constrainfloorelevation true or false but I find that on and off works also and saves a little more typing. :)
A clear conscience is usually a sign of a bad memory.

I'm not quiet clear on the - cursor up key? The answer is probably staring me in the face, either that or it's called something different in different countries.

To be fair, I've heard it being called up arrow far more often than cursor up key. Regarding the cheat, it's sad that the Sims 3 doesn't store a full history of them instead of only the last one used.

oh, I never heard the up arrow key called a cursor key before... anyway if it stored all cheats you might have to search for the cheat you want...

Sorry for the confusion. I've heard it both ways but I've been calling them cursor keys for so many years that I didn't even think about it.

That's what I called them on my Commodore Vic 20  ;D

This has been the same since the first Sims game. I wonder why they almost never changes the cheat commands?

Very good information though, maybe I do it so often that I forget that I also found this out by pure accident some years ago by typing the wrong key by just putting my hand on the keyboard while playing! :D

Why try and fix something that isn't broken?  They work and they're understood by most Sims players *shrugs*

Yeah I guess that's true. That's what makes the Sims so good, they don't change winning concepts.

I tried the familyfunds cheat and it didn't work, do you have to do it whilst in the game or main menu. It said it didn't know familyfunds so I just put the family name and the amount and didn't like that either.

Say you want the Smith family to have 150,000 in funds.  You would open the cheat window, then type familyfunds smith 150000 and then hit enter.  Your "Smith" family then will have exactly 150,000 in funds.  You can do this from the main menu or whilst in game.

You can also make them broke!  :o  Just use 0 instead of bigger numbers.  Remember that money caps at about 2 billion simoleans if you are adding money.

If you have problem writing it as the game likes it, type in 'help' (without the quotations mark) in the cheat window and you get up a list of the most basic cheats; 'family funds' is among them. Also remember that you explicitly must have 'testingcheatsenabled true' activated, otherwise the game won't accept it.
