Feed the stupid sim!
« on: October 07, 2011, 09:50:23 AM »
Why is it that sims will not eat even when they are so starved they could move to Biafra?

The bar is almost red; they have a plate of food in front of them that they just made and they will do anything but eat it.

The dining set is of acceptable quality so that is not the problem.

This has happened with every sim that I have ever made.  Once in a blue moon they will eat what they cook but I can't trust them so it wastes my game time.

What am I missing????

Just click on the moodlet and they will run for the fridge!

What setting do you have free will on?

Free will is on high.  I would think that with it set high they would want to fulfill that need rather than not.  I so don't get this game at all and didn't get this part in "The sims" either. <<sigh>>

OK, I'll try this.

Thanks.

I'm just re-thinking this one - you say they will run for the fridge... does that mean they will not eat the food they just made and walked away?

Sorry I don't make it clear. They will eat what is in front of them or they will take something from the fridge. I let them always make food and put the leftovers in the fridge. You also can buy apples or other fruit at the supermarket and put it in their invetory. Then they will eat the apple when you click the moodlet.

@darski:

What happens when you click the plate of food and give the command to eat it or to grab a plate?

I'm not darski, but I believe he/she said that the only problem was that they weren't eating it automatically when they made it.

Well then, the obvious solution is to give the command to eat the food.  There could be any number of reasons why the Sim won't eat it autonomously.

Check your free will, just to make sure.

I think it's kinda random whether they eat it or not.
I have mine on free will high (I hope!) and sometimes they will and sometimes they won't. Really it's just one more thing you have to make them do. It's not a big deal.

I'm pretty sure if they're hungry enough they'll eat it automaticaly, but if they don't have any of the hunger moodlets they'll just leave it on the counter. And in normal games I never have free will on.

I know that sims will waste a lot of time if you don't have a queue set up for them so I generally have at least 3 items in line.  when they are so starved they can just barely make it to the fridge I thought it would be safe to expect them to eat food right in front of their faces but they just don't seem to grasp the concept of putting something into an empty stomach so that it is no longer empty.  ;D

When I destroy the entire queue and click on the plate they will generally eat it.

I should explain that efficiency is really important to me (my shrink doesn't agree however -JK) and it drives me crazy when everything has to be put on hold so an ID10T does not starve.  You have to stop whatever they are doing and go back to square one because the RED bar has to be fixed before they can do any other thing.

Some programmer put it into the game that a starving sim will not eat food.  talk about shrinks eh!
