Money trees come from seeds that you find.  Your Sim needs to be a high level Gardner to be able to plant them.

You need to be at level 7 and it's only the "special" seeds which might turn out to be money trees.
The best chance of finding them are outside the graveyard or the science facility, not on the side of the big dome, the other side.

Yeah make it a daily ritual to go to the above spots and grab all the special seeds you find.  I believe Pam once said the color of the money tree seeds is more gold than the others. Click the arrow on the icon and view the individual seeds. Planting them all doesn't hurt, all four special seed types serve a purpose. PJ's also right that you need to be exactly level 7.

I remember Pam saying something like that as well.
Having a lot of money trees is a nice sight, all those bills growing from trees  ;D

It's true that the money tree seeds are more gold in color.  When you have several special seeds in your inventory, click on the folded corner to see the whole stack and the money tree seeds will be more gold than the other seeds in the stack.  I can't really tell when they're on the ground, though.  Just always pick up any special seeds.  The cemetary is always a good place to look, but surprisingly, there are special seeds literally all over town.  If you can purchase the Collection Helper with happiness points, it will be well worth it and you'll be stunned at how many seeds are laying around everywhere!

For those who haven't had the tour of my Dreamweaver family mansion (lol), I thought I'd post pictures of my money tree grove.  53 trees by my count.

Also, my Omni garden with Death Fish ready to harvest.

Heh heh, the death fish plants look ridiculous. :D

It's true that the money tree seeds are more gold in color.  When you have several special seeds in your inventory, click on the folded corner to see the whole stack and the money tree seeds will be more gold than the other seeds in the stack.  I can't really tell when they're on the ground, though.

I know you've said this before but I just can't seem to see it, they all look the same to me in inventory. I wonder if it's my monitor or maybe we have different game versions...
Because when they're on the ground some seeds look more golden than others, I haven't entirely figured out if these are the money tree seeds or if it's just random.

Anyway it's not that important, it doesn't take long to just plant all special seeds.

Here's a screenshot where the seeds can be viewed.  On the top row of the inventory:  vampire fish, regular special seeds, money tree seeds, onion.  The money tree seeds show up as more gold on my game.

This batch produced 129 bags of money for about $39,000.  They hadn't been tended in awhile and needed fertilizer and weeding, so it's not an impressive crop.

Thanks Pam, the difference there is obvious. They don't look that different at all in my game, strange.
