Paint just about anything!
« on: September 28, 2011, 10:54:33 PM »
Ok, so you know how a sim can use their phone to memorise a scene, then paint it? Is it possible to edit the file that the sim has memorised and replace it with any picture? I'm trying to come up with creative, yet feasible ideas of getting custom paintings into my game without too much CC.

EDIT: ok, after some research I discovered that this was actually something you could do in Sims 2 (though I was never interested in paintings much until now), but you can't do it in Sims3. There is a long and complicated way of replacing existing paintings that they do, but it involves modding tools :(

So if anyone sees my request in the swap shop thread, and is capable of making recolourable blank canvases from the in-game paintings, I think you would go down as legendary in the entire sims 3 community.

EDIT: Aha! I have it! Download or create your custom pattern (ehem, picture). Paint your wall/floor with it. Now have your skilled painter sim take a still life of your custom pattern!!!

Here is a pattern I downloaded from another custom content site, as a photo, and as a painting. My sim's artistic streak was coming out, so photos may be the better option. If you can get your sim to paint a fairly clear picture, then paintings may give you a better angle for the still life, as you have better camera rotation.

Here is another one I did with CaP (my first one! Turns out Roxio Picture Thingy is not too bad). It's not as clear as the original - it's a picture of a picture of a picture... so it's bound to lose some detail, but on the whole I think it still looks alright - and when matched with the right other pictures and furniture... :D

Oh :( Well, perhaps we should sticky it in the building thread or something? It's not entirely the same though. The idea of painting/photographing them is different, though perhaps not new. Chances are someone else already 'discovered' that too - but it was new to me, and I hadn't read anything about it anywhere in my extensive simming/foruming, so I figured I'd share :)

Cool find. I don't think it is the same as Gheez's find though. Gheez made pictures in CAP but Chuckles is making them by using the Camera and Still Life to take images of a Pattern. Gheez's is more complex though.

Just so you know, Gheez discovered this sometime around June this year.

It's not the same thing, actually.  Different objective, different process, different outcome.

Sorry. The way I read Chuckles' original post, I thought (s)he meant do what Gheez did, then photograph/still-life paint whatever you made.

There is a she. At least, that's what he told me once. ;)

Enough confusion. What I am wondering is what will happen if I upload a house to the Swap Shop sith such a painting i.e. it if this painting still will show what it did showed in my game: a painted wall made i.e. CAP.

If you want to test that, you could download one of the houses on my thread. It was Pally's Modern Mini that I first put photos in. They are on the second floor in the little niches behind the kitchen.

Heh, maybe now I can create a modern art museum...
Or just use this to make awesome looking paintings. Either one.

Also, feel free to request a home by PMing me! Always happy to help.

Hey guys I'm taking an extended hiatus... again. I'm out of ideas to build houses and I don't have as much fun designing homes like I used to; it feels more like a chore. So that's where I'll be, I will probably be back sometime. :P

Didn't those Houses by Kate (I forgot her name, sorry about that - MoonsAreBlue posted a link to her stuff) didn't she have custom photos in her Lots? Or was I imagining that, if anyone downloaded any they could see if those worked? Although I am pretty sure they do work.

Those custom pictures were CC that her friend Dawn made, then Kate photographed, placed into a house, and then uploaded to keep them free of CC.
