EA released an update to the game yesterday, which I installed.  It's got some nice changes to the game.  But now I'm concerned that it's got problems after reading that post.  I noticed some of those issues myself.  I don't see any recommendations yet on how to fix the problem.

Pam, EA must be on this already because they've pulled the patch link from this page:

http://www.thesims3.com/game/patches

You might want to just wipe everything and reinstall with no patch and play the waiting game for now.

I don't know if it's the expansion that's the issue. It sounds like the expansion in combination with this latest patch is what's causing problems. But, hopefully there will be answers soon.

Well from what I am reading over on the EA forum the patch is definitely causing allot of trouble, although a few say the game has some trouble too!!??  How they can tell is beyond me  ???.
Although as always some are saying their game is running fine....sigh  :-\  What a quandary.  :P

Thanks Metro.  I'm going to launch the game now and see how it's doing.  I've never reinstalled a game this large before.  Do you have any tips to get me through it?

Well, first you'd want to save any families you want to keep. Just throw those files on your desktop. Then, you're safe to completely wipe all Sims 3 content from your hard drive. Just reinstall the vanilla game and the expansion, and then hopefully today or tomorrow EA will release a solid patch.

ACK! I am stuck at work!  4 more hours...

I think that this is a great time for a public service anouncement.

BACK UP YOUR SIMS BEFORE YOU DOWNLOAD ANYTHING!!!!

unless you don't care about them....

I just don't understand why EA/ Maxis doesn't do a better job testing Sims before they release them.  Do other EA games have these issues?

EA/Maxis also put out SimCity 4 and I remember having plenty of issues with that game. But, it's amazing games of their complexity work at all isn't it? I mean, the amount of coding involved must be just beyond belief compared to most computer games.

I've found a temporary workaround for the error 16 while saving issue.  Use "Save As" from the menu instead of "Save" and the error message doesn't appear.  I just tried this and it worked fine.  My game was saved at the point I left it.

Hope this helps!

p.s.  Thanks for the tips, Metro.

Yeah but think how many volunteer testers they have out there.  I would do it for free and sign a confidentiality clause too.  I am sure a lot of us would!    ;D

Us here on the west coast are the last to get anything

Not exactly. Where I live the release date is Nov. 20. :P

Maybe that's a good thing if there are all kinds of problems that needs to be fixed. I can't see any of those forum links, none of them will load. You guys broke the forum! :o

Yeah, I can't get the update list.
And the forum for me is completely dead. It just tries to load for ages and then it gives me some server error.
