Error during start-up after installing Create-a-Pet demo

I installed the demo. I made a cat. I went to the Gallery to get the picture of the cat that I'd taken to post to the forum.

I tried opening my regular game and got the following message:  "There was an error during start-up. Please see the Log for more details."

The launcher showed 0.000etc. as my game.

I tried bypassing the launcher and got this message:  "Sims 3 has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

My games are updated, and I updated Origin a few days ago.

I've uninstalled the demo, but still can't get the same messages.

It'll probably mean a whole reinstall.

I haven't had this problem, I just quit the create a pet demo and started my game like normal and nothing strange happened.

That's great for you. But don't uninstall the demo. Some people found it wiped out their game, too.

Have you tried deleting your cache file before starting the game ? Maybe that will fix it

No, deleting the cache files did not work. But this did:

Go into Documents or My Documents.
Go into Electronic Arts.
Go into The Sims 3.
  Pull out Save folder, Downloads folder and put them on desktop.

Rename The Sims 3 as The Sims 3 old.

Start your game.

It will be like a new game, so quit. Open My Documents again. Open Saves folder and the Saves folder on your desktop. Move your games from the desktop into the new folder. I haven't tried this with the downloads yet, but other people are saying it works.

If you want the Pets demo, people are recommending that you manually install to a folder separate from your games.

Also are recommending you treat the demo as a patch and remove mods and CC (not that anyone on this forum has any mods, just so you know.).
