Traits that influence painted results
« on: September 22, 2011, 07:00:20 AM »
I've found a file on my computer when I was cleaning documents up with information according to what influence traits may have on the outcome of paintings. I have no idea where I got it, but it seems important for the members among us from which sims where busy with the paint skill.
Could be that this information already is somewhere on this forum. If so, feel free to remove this topic fellow mods.
For what it's worth: I've created that file on 27-04-2010 23;04;03 PM.

Here is the info that it contains:

No Trait          - If your sim has no other traits, he will always paint the basic version of the painting.
Artistic           - Gives a water-color effect to the painting, though with highlighted border effects on the object of the painting.
Can't Stand Art - Darkens the painting with higher contrast and heavier, thicker brush strokes.
Computer Whiz - Gives the painting a square-tiled effect, obliterating any detail.
Evil                - Tints the picture heavily towards red, most details are left intact.
Grumpy           - Tints the picture heavily towards blue, most details are left intact.
Genius            - Tiles the picture into small white-bordered hexagons/pentagons.
Insane            - Obliterates detail, makes colors more flat and contrasting, shapes become jagged.
Neurotic          - Turns the painting into a bright neon mess.
Virtuoso          - Adds a white flair effect to the painting, most details are left intact.

What about Perfectionist? The trait says they are supposed to make better paintings and write better books.

Good point. But this is about the visible appearance of the painting, not the quality or value which indeed get influenced by the Perfectionist trait.

Ok. Next question: Does the effect of the paintings from these traits also change how much you get paid for the paintings?

My sim is Artistic and her daughter is both Artistic and a Genius. I've noticed the daughter gets better pay than the Mom.

Hmm, it seems like you've just answered your own question. :P But there are more values that can influence this outcome. Like: the amount of pictures each sim has painted, are they Extra Creative, do they have both maxed their painting skills and have they fulfilled the oppertunities that came with it, like painting 5 masterpieces.

But normally I don't think any of the traits that only influences the look of the painting, the extra layerstyle over the actual picture, doesn't influence the value at all. But if you clone your sim (save him/her to the bin, place him/her back in the household the original came from) you can test this by letting those two exact same sims paint, but for both of them you will change one trait to a trait that influences only the look of the painting, without replacing that trait with one that influences the vallue (Creative and Perfectionist).

I'll have to test that theory.

You're willing to do that? That's great! Feel free to post your results here when you're done so I can add them to the top of this topic, with your name of course.

Leto - somewhere in this topic, there is a lengthy discussion on traits and pictures.
EDIT: You got that info from reply #24 of the topic I linked.

I took my sim and changed 1 trait, both, therefore, have level 5 painting, artistic and perfectionist. Both have LTW of creative.

Here is the same still life, done in the same room with needs static

The one in pink was by the one with virtuoso and was considered normal valued at 507
The white one was done by the neurotic sim and was considered brilliant valued at 523

edit: previously they did 4 small paintings and each by the neurotic was worth more.

(This is a very late post, but...)

I'm new-ish to the game and some of my sim's traits are Artistic, Insane, Genius and Computer Whiz (It's me, haha). My paintings are mostly watercolour, but there is one modern painting that I kept in my room. It was very modern as well,so I'll get a screenshot soon.

My question is: Does Artistic influence most paintings, and was my modern painting influenced by Computer Whiz?
