No Laundry?
« on: September 22, 2011, 12:32:26 AM »
Okay so I'm kinda confused about the laundry. My sims have a washer and a dryer as well as clothesbaskets in the laundry room. Why aren't they leaving piles of clothes on the floor? Is there a way that I might have turned laundry off?

If you have a clothes basket the clothes go in there instead of on the floor.

Your sims laundry goes to any baskets in the room that they were removed in. Example: John changes for work in the Bedroom. If the bedroom has a laundry basket, it goes there. Otherwise, it goes on the floor.

I'm reviving this topic because I have a similar problem and would like some help on it. I installed Ambitions recently but my Sims don't leave behind a pile of clothing when they shower. Is this because they only have one of every type of outfit (Everyday, formal etc) or because I don't have'nt bought any of the laundry stuff for them yet? I want to figure out this laundry thing & get it to work before I even consider building a laundry onto their house and buying the necessary equipment. (Like a clothes basket, washing machine etc).

Laundry isn't produced if there is no Laundry Equipment on the Lot. That's so that if you don't want to deal with it you can leave it out and not have the feature. So if you want it you have to buy the Washer and then a Drier or a Line. Clothes Baskets are not needed but I like them because the Laundry automatically goes in there if there is one in the room and doesn't lie on the floor.

I find after awhile dealing with laundry is a hassle. But I can never find a way to get rid of it even if I delete all the laundry supplies.
I definitely agree with Samoht though, if you really want to deal with laundry I would suggest a laundry basket. Just keep tabs on it because sometimes the maid (or your sim) do not get all the laundry out of the baskets. I have found that if you have the washing machine near all the bedrooms it's easier to just drag the laundry into it so it makes it easier to wash all the clothes at once.

While doing the laundry can be a hassle sometimes, I find the moodlets that come from it great.  Once the washer has it's upgrade, the clean clothes moodlet lasts most of the day.

The file I was mentioning here got the laundry workin fine a while ago for no apparent reason. I just do it now in my dynasty to give my immortal something to do.

Thanks for the help, I'm still trying to stumble my way through Ambitions. (And Twinbrook).

Yes I do want to deal with laundry, I always felt my homes were somewhat lacking in the past without laundry equipment so I don't mind the hassle, seems worth it.  :)

Two things I wanted to note: I have had laundry not appear despite the presence of a washer, dryer and hamper.  I assumed this was just a really nice glitch since I wanted the realism of the equipment, but it was nice not to have to actually do laundry.  That said, at some point (probably after a patch), it did start appearing.

The second thing I wanted to add is in addition to the moodlets folcon mentioned.  Your sims not only get clean clothes moodlets but an additional clean sheets moodlet while sleeping.  The moodlet will start every time they change clothes, so just changing from pajamas to everyday and back again guarantees there's pretty much always a positive moodlet.  And, in my experience, there's no need to do laundry every day.  Once or twice a week is usually okay for my families and I've never had that moodlet run out.  If you're looking to boost lifetime reward points through atmosphere rather than relying on wishes, laundry is a definite plus.

Are you certain about that?  I don't recall the moodlet starting over when my Sim changed clothes.  It just lasted for however many hours it was supposed to.

Absolutely certain.  I mean, if the moodlet is 12 hours and my sim doesn't change clothes for 14 hours, yes, it'll run out, but as soon as she changes clothes it shows up again.  It also refreshes if she changes sooner.  I've never known a sim family in my game with laundry facilities not to be like this.  I really thought that's how it was supposed to work.  I'll be very surprised if I'm just the lucky guy who got the super helpful glitch!

My laundry moodlets work the same as yours CSquared.

Once you get into a system, the laundry doesn't become so much of a bore. Plus if you have a maid or butler, they will often start the process by putting dirty laundry in the washing machine. Your sim has to move them to the dryer or line. I've also seen maids take the laundry out of the dryer when it has finished.
