A serious error has occured after installing update

Hi ive been having a similiar sort of problem. I bought ambitions and when I tried to install it said that I need to install an update to continue. All i had before i bought ambitions was the base game with no updates or patches at all. My game worked fine until I installed the update so I could continue the installation process. Ambitions worked fine the very first time I played it. I was able to place the fire station etc. in my town. But when I saved the game using 'save as' and exited then the next day when i tried to load my game it suddenly stopped halfway through the process and this popped up "A serious error has occured while loading 'sunset valley. sims3'it is strongly recommended that you restart the application". I exited the sims and tried again, same thing. Restarted the computer still the same thing. It hasnt worked since. I even tried a full reinstall and its still not working. Any help would be awsome. I suggest you do some clean up on your computer (disk clean-up, defrag).  Then do a manual uninstall of the entire game, and re-install.  There are help instructions on our Technical Help board for both the clean up and the manual uninstall.  Sometimes it takes more than one re-install of the game to get things working right.

Thanks I will try that but its practicaly a brand new computer, and the sims 3 is the only game installed.

When you say the error happens while 'loading your game' do you mean it happens when you start up Sims 3 or only after trying to load a saved game?
I think your savegame may be corrupt, it seems it can happen when you play an old save after an update. I especially think that because you have been playing without any patches at all and we're now on patch 25, that's a lot of changes. Have you tried starting a new game?

It happens when I'm loading a saved game. Yeah I've tried it a few times and it works fine until I save the game, then every single time I try and load it the pop up occurs. I've tried a complete reinstall and few times and the same thing happens everytime.

Are you putting the same save file back into the fresh install?  Or is this happening with new files?  If it's just the one file that keeps doing it, you probably need to consider that file corrupted and beyond hope.  It's frustrating, but everyone loses files from time to time.  I suggest that you install the updates it prompts during the Ambitions install and keep the game current by installing updates as they're released.

I'm not sure to be honest. I just unistall everything to do with the Sims and then Reinstall it as normal. I really don't know much about computers to be honest. It happened before I tried to install ambitions, I was playing the base game until I saw the notice in the game launcher about installing updates and it worked fine until that was installed. After that I uninstalled everything and just played the base game and it saved and loaded fine.
