sims3.com says please update your game
« on: September 13, 2011, 01:58:04 PM »
So I open the launcher as instructed. I click "Game Updates" I make sure I'm logged in and refresh the page and it still it says "Your game is up-to-date" I have Ambitions, Late Night and High End Loft installed. I somehow mucked up the installation of Outdoor Living Stuff or forgot about it altogether you never know with me.
Should I try and unistall and reinstall everything again? Because in that case I really should do a back-up, track down the code for "Outdoor Living stuff" and wait for Generations and World Adventures to arrive in the mail and then install them all in right order, right?
Must be better to them all at once when they will arrive soon anyway?
Is there anything else I could do? I tried talking to EA on their chat but when the first guy couldn't help me and sent me to another person. I gave up after a while because I didn't feel I had time sitting there staring at the screen.

I'm confused. If the launcher says you are up to date, then what's the problem? I know there was a new patch that is for Mac exclusively. Maybe this is what you saw?

Also, you don't necessarily need to install EPs and SPs in the correct order. It won't mess up your game if that's what you're wondering. However, if you find yourself needing to do a complete reinstall, you may as well go in order since you're having to start from point a anyways.

Sorry I wasn't clear I realize now. I was trying to download from the exchange but it wouldn't let me. Tells me I need to update the game first.

A complete reinstall from time to time is always a good idea.  Be sure to back up you game before doing so.  You can find back up and reinstall information on the Technical Help board.

However, it's not necessary to reinstall you game simply because you've bought a new expansion pack.  You can install them in any order, really.  Back with the Sims 2, it was important to install them in order, but that's not the case with Sims 3.  Once you have all the Expansion and Stuff Packs, you may want to reinstall them in order just to keep yourself organized, but it's not necessary for the game to function properly.

Did you download the store content patch?

Did you actually try to download it, or just saw the text where the necessary EPs etc are listed? Because whenever I go to the exchange, that text is on all items, and (I was a bit hesitant first) when I tried I could download no problem. I even tested it - I made a sim myself, uploaded it to the exchange, then checked it... it had the "please update your game" text and I had just uploaded it there myself from *my* game. :)

I've seen the "please update your game" on items in the Exchange, too.  An EA customer service representative told me that if I've installed all the updates that came in through my launcher that I could ignore that message on the Exchange.

@Vegangeekgirl:

Be very careful when downloading from the Exchange.  You're at risk for getting things that can corrupt your game.  It will be something attached to a Sim or a lot and you'll never know until it's too late and your game has gone glitchy.  The only things we consider "safe" from the Exchange are patterns.

Hi ive been having a similiar sort of problem. i bought ambitions and when i tried to install it said that i need to install an update to continue. all i had before i bought ambitions was the base game with no updates or patches at all. my game worked fine until i installed the update so i could continue the installation process. ambitions worked fine the very first time i played it. i was able to place the fire station etc. in my town. but when i saved the game using 'save as' and exited then the next day when i tried to load my game it suddenly stopped halfway through the process and this popped up "A serious error has occured while loading 'sunset valley. sims3'it is strongly recommended that you restart the application". i exited the sims and tried again, same thing. restarted the computer still the same thing. and it hasnt worked since. i even tried a full reinstall and its still not working. any help would be awsome. thanks

You probably need to start a new topic for this problem, that way it will be specifically for what you need.  Also, please note in the Forum Rules that proper English is used on the Forum, which means you need to capitalize the pronoun "I" and capitalize the beginning of a sentence.  Thanks very much.
