I just experienced the most frustrating wedding I've ever had in the Sims. I haven't had that many, but before today, they've all gone off without a hitch. I'll give you a little back story:
Jackson Dagger was an adventurous sim, spending much more time in foreign countries than in his hometown of Twinbrook. The loner somehow managed to befriend high schooler Jade Greenwood, and the two started a romantic relationship as soon as Jade graduated. Jackson and Jade Dagger (I love that name!) moved into a fancy new home with plenty of room to spare, so as soon as Jade's little sister became a young adult, the couple asked Emerald Greenwood to move in with them.
Eventually Jackson and Jade had a son, Trent. Emerald was working her way through the Law Enforcement ranks. Everything was going great. One day, on a whim, Jackson decided to summon a mummy from a sarcophagus in the basement. Adam (the mummy's name was much longer and more complex, but I just called him Adam because that's what the first four letters of his name spelled) and Emerald hit it off right away. Emerald was reluctant to start a romantic relationship with someone she couldn't have children with, so Adam spent a couple of nights sleeping in a Blessed sacrophagus, and he became a normal sim. Unfortunately, Adam was an elder sim, and he was afraid Emerald wouldn't love him. So while she was at work the day of Adam's transformation, Jackson gave Adam a potion that would "de-age" him. Emerald couldn't have been more delighted with the new Adam. It was about this time when Jackson and Jade had their second child, a little girl named Diamond.
Things were getting hot and heavy between the lovebirds, and soon Adam was popping the question. Jade planned the perfect wedding for her little sister and her fiance, right in their own backyard. But things didn't turn out as planned.
The decided on an evening wedding, so Jackson could make a nice vegetarian lobster thermador for the occasion. Most of the day was spent in relaxation, with Adam watching TV with Jackson, and Jade helping Emerald try on wedding dresses. The only two guests were Jade's and Emerald's parents, Oliver and Holly Greenwood, who showed up at about 5:30.
Things started going wrong as soon as Jackson called everyone to dinner, which was soon after the Greenwoods arrived. Trent needed to use his potty chair, which was upstairs in his room (he had been brought downstairs earlier in the day). So Jade tended to Trent while Jackson tried to keep everyone entertained until the actual wedding ceremony. At some point Adam decided to go down to the basement to fix some drinks. Unfortunately the floor hygienator at the bottom of the basement stairs misfired and made Adam sick. Jackson had a moodlet manager, so Adam went back upstairs to get cured. Just before the wedding was about to start, Mrs. Greenwood decided to change into her bathing suit and play in the sprinklers. Jackson had to go tell her to stop, so the could get the wedding started. Jade decided to take this opportunity to go feed Diamond, who was getting hungry.
I thought things were finally getting back on track, but alas, I was wrong. Emerald had disappeared! After some searching, she was found in the basement, just standing around. At least she didn't get sick. But she was getting sleepy, as was everyone else on the lot. To save time, Adam decided to start the wedding, hoping Emerald would make her way outside. She did, but so did Jade, who for some reason hadn't fed the baby yet. Diamond was very hungry by this point, but Jade didn't seem to be able to make up her mind whether she should feed her starving baby or watch her sister get married. (The choice was obvious to me: feed the kid! But Jade didn't want to listen.) So eventually Jade fed Diamond, missing the entire wedding. She probably would have laughed at her mother attending the ceremony in her swimwear. Jackson decided to whip out his moodlet manager again and cure some sleepy sims. He should have remembered to cure himself, but that comes later.
Well, maybe Jade could make the cake-cutting. Checking in on Trent, who had been playing with his imaginary friend, Patches, showed that the cake-cutting would have to wait for Jade. Trent was tired and cranky. Jade hoped she could quickly put him to bed and make it downstairs for a slice of cake. Jade must have been feeling guilty about missing the wedding, because she decided put Trent down (on the floor!) and go get some cake. A certain voice in her head tried to get her to cancel this action and attend to her son first (several times). And now Diamond has to have her diaper changed, and Jade is close to exhaustion. Where is Jackson with that moodlet manager? Oh, yeah. While attention was on Jade and Trent, Jackson finished his cake and decided to go to bed. Well Jade wasn't having any of that! Jackson got out of bed and took care of Trent while Jade dealt with Diamond's dirty diaper. Luckily Adam and Emerald weren't behaving quite as stupidly. Adam cleaned up the dirty cake dishes, while Emerald decided to go check out stuff on the computer.
Well, while she was there, I had her and Adam move out. I had planned on doing it anyway, but not so soon after the wedding. I had Jackson tell the Greenwoods to go home, Adam and Emerald move out, and Jade go to bed. Now with just four people in the family, things should go back to being "normal."
I had such nice plans for this wedding. Jade was going to take a video, while Jackson took photographs. Jackson did manage to get two pictures (one of the wedding arch, and one of Adam, but not one of Emerald, or the couple), while Jade didn't do much but walk back and forth between the crib and the stairs as I kept trying to cancel her actions. I feel like I'm forgetting others things that happened. I know Jackson tried going downstairs to make drinks at one point, but I don't remember when. I found myself practically yelling at the screen when everyone kept going downstairs, and especially when Jackson went to bed. I don't know how he snuck past me to do that.
Anyway, I just wanted to share. I wish I had thought to take screen caps, because this made a decent little story. I don't normally take screen shots, or write sim stories, so I didn't think of it until later. I didn't share looking for advice or anything, but anyone has suggestions on how I could have done things differently, I will gladly read them. Thanks for reading!
