Playing without CC
« on: September 09, 2011, 05:17:41 PM »
Hi there,

I love taking part in the new build contests, but I am a sucker for patterns and I currently have over a thousand patterns installed into my game. These have been banned in the contests, so is there an easier or better way to disable those banned items?

I ask because the last time it messed with my other houses because the patterns were removed from my game. If there isn't a quick and simple way to disable the added patterns without it wrecking my other houses then I am afraid that it would not be worth all that lost time to enter into the contests.

Thank you in advance
KJ

I think that in the launcher you can check a box that says select all and uninstall them all at once.

Yes there is. Click on the little picture that looks like a box and then there'll be  a button that says Select All. and then Uninstall.

In the Launcher, in the installed content tab, there is a button labelled "Run Without Custom Content". Tick the box next to it, and launch the game.
EDIT: Oh, and untick it if you want to play with CC.

When I checked the 'Run without custom content' box and launched the game, it told me that it had changed the decor in my other houses, when I went to look, sure enough, every item from the store and all my custom patterns had been replaced with other stuff.

I am sure that there is a simple way around this, but as ever it evades me.

Thank you everyone for your suggestions so far.

Around what?
If it says that it takes away the CC they are not in he game and they have to change them to something else, so what are you trying to get around?

Isn't it possible to just not use any of the patterns that have a little icon on the picture of them (the folder or the little flower thing) when using Create a Style instead of uninstalling them?

I believe the main thing here is:

[...] I am a sucker for patterns and I currently have over a thousand patterns installed into my game. [..]

So it will be hard to find non-CC patterns.

Sportsfan: I am unsure what you think that I meant but I am trying to find a way whereby I am able to take part in the contests whilst not having to go back and re-edit each of my other houses. I am not trying to find a way around the contest rule.

The problem is that I have all those patterns because I build house for people on another site and sifting through that many patterns is difficult to say the least.

It looks like the only option I have is to not take part in the contests.

My apologies for asking this question I just figured that someone might have an easy solution. I was in no way implying that I was trying to circumvent the contest rule.

Thank you to everyone for all your help.

Edit: to fix spelling error

Well it says the builds for the building contests have to be fresh builds. Ones you make up for the contest, not already posted or made for another site. Couldn't you just make your house for the contest without custom patterns?

Sorry, kj, I totally phrased my previous post wrong. What I meant was:
If you uninstall the patterns from your game, of course they are not going to be on your previous houses that used to have them, and will therefore had to be replaced by the game with something else.

And like Vamp said, it has to be a fresh build so you don't have to uninstall if from your game, you just can't use them in your building for the challenge.

I know that the contest entries have to be fresh builds, and free from CC, that is the sole reason for my question.

I guess I may have been looking at this in a narrow minded way.

If I have a save file just for the contest entries, then check the 'run without CC' box, then will that save my other save files from being edited once I run the game. I hope that makes some sense?

My apologies if my responses are coming across as short. This is just a little exasperating  ;D

Kind Regards
KJ

Yes when you uncheck the box, all the builds, sims, etc, will be back to normal. That's your best shot right now.

Custom Patterns are not banned for having in your game or anything, they are purely advised to not be used due to them not always showing and displaying properly when others download them.
