Fringe benefit to Journalism

One thing I noticed the other day and hadn't seen listed anywhere is the ability of a journalist with the interview "skill" to go to restaurants, concerts and sporting events for FREE, and then able to write up a review afterward.  Might make a big difference in a LTW challenge: no need to pay for food or entertainment, he gets it for free, AND doesn't have to mess with the whole interview a sim thingy.

Huh, that's interesting. I'll check that out. I've never really got into the whole Journalism career track because finding people to interview was a bit annoying, plus writing took a long time. But that would make it easier. Good find!

I'm posting the Career Couples' Grand Slam Challenge on Friday. In that event your couple will need to max 8 different careers (4 each), so that would be a good opportunity for you to dive into Journalism. I've never done Journalism myself. I'll have to look at which careers will be fastest to max because that will be a big issue.

Journalism is a good career if you don't want to go the full blown reclusive writers approach. Specialize in writing articles and your sim can make a good living. I didn't really do much interviewing, just reviews and articles mainly.

Be careful with that though.  I had one of my journalist sims give a movie he's seen at the theater a bad review.  They responded by banning him from ever watching any more movies for life!  I was floored.

Yeah you got to be careful with that one.  I usually have him write positive reviews for sports and movies for just that reason.   He is star anchor and has made enemies all over SV with the negative articles he wrote.   Most were about sims who were klepto, insane, evil or inappropriate which was true but he now has several enemies.  I wonder if there's a look over your shoulder move with the sims?   Thank heavens they don't have stalker sims in the game or he'd be toast!

I haven't done journalism yet. That was the next career I was going to max. I already have maxed political and medical. I wonder if my sim retires, can I get a new job and and max it out, but still keep the benefits from another job?

I don't have a definite answer, but my guess is no. Fringe benefits like driving a police car in the Law Enforcement career would be specifically tied to that career. Once you start a new career, then I'd have to think your fringe benefits would be removed.

EDIT: Looks like I'm wrong. At least with the police cruiser one. The Guide says that benefit stays with you if you switch careers. I don't know about other fringe benefits. Obviously you'd be able to keep the nice fridge at the end of the cooking career. I don't know if the "aura of evil" would remain by switching to another career.

If your goal is making as much money as possible in a single day, then it's going to be the Astronaut. If the goal was the most money over a week, then I'd say Medicine, but the Astronaut gets an entire week's worth of pay in a single day.

I know that. That will be my last job that I take. I want to max out all the branches also. I'm wondering how you choose which branch you go to.
