Strange bug, any ideas how to fix it?
« on: February 21, 2010, 11:41:26 PM »
My female sim is in Egypt, things are going fine, doing some adventures... then all of a sudden she's no longer able to interact with anything once she hits a basement level.  She can go down the stairs, but once she's down there she can't do anything else except go back up.  I've tried different locations, pyramids, houses, etc, same problem in each location so the problem isn't the specific place.  I'm wondering if it might be related to something that's bugged in her inventory or something?  I've gone through and gotten rid of all the fish and gems that she's picked up while there but so far that hasn't helped.  Any other ideas of what I might try to fix this??  I'm really hoping it doesn't mean the end of adventuring for her because her LTW is getting a lvl 3 visa in each location and it's gonna get super hard if she can't go into any basements.

I would try resetting the Sim just in case, that's a strange one indeed. Instructions for resetting Sims can be found here. I've never heard of anything like that happening, but it's what I'd try first.

Maybe make a basement at the home and see what its like there, that could make the bug in egypt or your sim is the problem. (Put a radio or something to interact with)

Next I'm going to check her inventory for special seeds, I'm hoping it's something similar to the fishing bug.

And thanks for the idea to reset her, hadn't thought of that.

It really sucks though, she can't even walk into the room because she can't click on the floor even.

No seeds in the inventory, and reset her, still having issues. :(  Planning to just do delivery tasks to get her Visa up to lvl 3 and then quit traveling with her.

She's been home, and now she's currently in France and things seem to be ok in that location.  After this France trip I'm planning to send her back to Egypt and see if it's fixed itself.

One interesting note, not sure if this has anything at all to do with it but this all happened after a game crash.  I had to start again back at a previous save right before the trip.  The first time I went on the trip I discovered a daughter that she never knew about fathered by an NPC she never woo hoo'd with.  The second time she went on the trip, I had her visit the house where her "daughter" lived, the teen "daughter" was still living in the house, still looked very much like my sim, but she did not show up on my sim's relationship screen as being a family member!  I'm kind of wondering if this all lead to my sim being unable to do anything in basements.  I know that seems crazy and unrelated but it seems like everything's interconnected in the programing.

Just thought I'd add, the first time she went on the trip she was able to explore basements with no problems.  It was the second time that I went on the trip that I encountered this bug.

That sounds like the dreaded ninja-baby world adventures bug, you did well in loading a save from before the travel (and you should save before every travel in case it happens).
If the issue isn't fixed in egypt, and since each of your travel locations is treated like a savegame, i think it's possible to rename or move the egypt one so the game re-creates it. Can't recall if the process involved more than that.

I was wondering about that!  Except my thought was if there was a way to reset the travel locations, for instance if you wanted to start over with the adventures for following generations.

Ok, so my next trip to Egypt went fine.  I could enter the basements no problem and I did a bunch of adventures.

But then...

I went home, and her daughter decided to get married, and right after the wedding it crashed.

*sigh*

So I'm really thinking that this is just an extension of the whole family tree bug, and because someone new was being added to the family it caused the game to crash.  The previous generation, the male heir played the field so to speak and fathered children in other countries on purpose and I think that's what started this whole mess.  Obviously his daughter having a random child in Egypt that she didn't plan for didn't help things.  It's bad enough now that when ANY of my family members click their family tree button nothing appears at all, no screen shows up or anything.

I did make this family before the recent patches, so I'm hoping that once I start over that it will fix the problem.

I'm pretty sad about it though, 2 generations of adventuring sims down the drain. :(

Yep, it sounds like the family data of your sims went down the drainage.

A recommendation for next time: no fathering/mothering sims with foreign people on foreign lands, woo them and have them move over with you at the main town first.

Easier said than done, when you don't know you're being impregnated!  One of my characters just SPOKE to the dude, and she was knocked up, and had a kid without knowing a thing about it.  I only found out she was a mother when I saw her last name had changed on its own!  She was married to someone else, but he was shuffled off her family tree in favour of this strange child.  Apparently this is a known bug and there is a thread about it.  Hasn't been addressed by the powers that be, though, as far as I know...

Part of it was my fault though, I realize that now.  Although it seems like a pretty stupid bug to make it so glitchy to have children with the foreign nationals!  I mean really, did they think people wouldn't do it or something?

Hmm perhaps a bit late but...

I can back the OPs story up completely. Every single detail you described about the bug!

And... family bug here too! My sim is female, who dated a guy from China. She did Woohoo with him, but that is about it. He eventually passed away, but much later when going through my relationship menu I found she had a son?? With the same last name as the guy she dated?? Surely if she fell pregnant I would of noticed....?

But I didn't take any further notice to it really. Now I end up with the tomb bug, like I said, every single detail matches. This however is a few (rl)days and tomb explorations later. So going back to my last saved game really isn't an option for me as that is... about 10 saves back more or less! I haven't tried resetting yet, which I will give a go tomorow. But if there are any tips or experiences by now, I would love to know! Thanks!!!
