Question About Band Gigs & Bands
« on: September 02, 2011, 01:35:58 AM »
I have a couple in Riverview, yes I know, the mecca of music central. They formed a band almost a week ago and no calls for a gig yet. I've created 4 venues/clubs to possibly accommodate the potential to have a gig somewhere. They're all designated as "dance clubs" with stages to accommodate a place for a band. I've read that once you create a band it takes a few days. I'm wondering if the venue(s) have anything to do with it? Thanks.

None of the clubs in Bridgeport have stages for bands, but the bars and lounges do. Perhaps clubs just don't host gigs for Sims? I'd suggest changing the designation of some of the clubs to bars, and then waiting around for the opportunity some more.  :)

It seems like I've heard that only one place in Bridgeport offers gigs.  It was that place that had only one level and there were instruments already set up.  I think it was Waylon's Haunt and it's a Dive Bar.  So maybe try changing one of yours to Dive Bar and see what happens.

I've done gigs in Weylons, Prosper room, Plasma 501, Banzai Lounge, Sports Zone, and Eugi's, I've also gotten rabbit hole gigs in the film studio, and the stadium but only after having gotten many gigs. However, I've never made a band outside of bridgeport so I don't know how it would work in riverview.

Wow!  I clearly don't have nearly enough experience with bands and gigs.  Thanks for that information.

Alrighty, I'll change some to bar or lounge and see if that has the desired effect. Thanks all.

Fixed the issue. Apparently, you need the instruments already on the lot. I don't think the zoning would matter...kinda silly you can't use your own instruments. Anyway, there ya go. Thanks.

In order to get gigs you need to make a lot of tips, and then the gigs start flowing in. That's why Bridgeport is good for bands. You hit the subway and in a few days you get calls for gigs. I also sent the band to the various bars to just play for recognition and tips.
My band sometimes had 2 gigs a night, and had to race from one to the other.

Any idea what "a lot" constitutes? I'd love to use the subway, but it feels like cheating you can amass such a fortune in one night down there, lol. Thanks for the advice, though. I'm going to need to pick up that pace as it's been almost a week since the first gig.  :)

Wondering if you think relationships has some play in getting gigs? That would seem more appropriate- more fans, more gigs? The reason I ask is my band had a call for a second gig only hours after they finished their first. That and I really don't like using the subway, lol...it feels like cheating  :)

I think turning up for gigs on time and completing them plays a very big part in getting more gigs. If I missed one, it would be at least a week before I got another, but once I got on a roll, I could get a second gig before the first one had even been completed, so I would have a gig on monday and tuesday for example.

However all of my Sims are very friendly, so you could be right, maybe having fans plays a roll in getting gigs.

I think having friends (fans) helps, because some gigs were set up by friends who were bartenders.
Also, celebrity status helps, since more people show up if you are a celebrity. The only problem with that is people asking for autographs during a gig.
I had a band with 3 five star celebrities and the place was packed since townies congregate at places the celebrities go. Also more paparazzi show up which adds to more publicity.

Started a new band, my sim , her husband (he's only level 8 for guitar; while she's maxed on guitar and piano); then the Hemlocks. Morrigan plays the drums VERY well and her husband is GREAT on bass!. They just got their first gig and have NEVER played together in public. Three sim days to get the gig. of course, my sim and her husband are 5 star celebs. While the other couple are vampires. Interesting!
Since I only play Bridgeport; I can't say what other sites do. But, if you want to the band thing; you need to be where the action is (i.e. Bridgeport).

There is something to be said for earning tips...lots of tips. That seems to definitely help as you said. Still can't claim what it may be but, a combination of friends and tips can't hurt.

Though, I have another question...having an issue with asking to join a band. My band, three members, all level 10 in their respective instruments, they've had 6 gigs so far and all are registered at city hall with band as their employment. There are four Sims living together. I'm trying to ask the 4th Sim to join the band (I've tried all 3 band Sims) but, the option doesn't show up. I've tried asking townies, as well, with all 3 and the option doesn't appear either.

I'm curious if there's a bug, or if anyone knows as to why? I had the fourth register at city hall with band as her employment. She can ask other Sims to join a band, but not the 3 she's living with...puzzled. Thanks.
