Is redownloading digital sims 3 expansions possible?

Because there isn't a special related Pets thread yet I decided to place this topic under General Discussion.
It will be moved to a better place when available.

My question is about The Sims 3 Pets which I've just preordered digitally with iDeal. I've read it is highly recommended to place the download (in this case the expansion) on another harddrive as a backup.
But I was wondering if it is possible if you can redownload the expansion after you've (for whatever reason) have reinstalled The Sims 3 all together. Just like you can with the Store.

I haven't bought from iDeal, but I buy from Game Tree. As long as I can sign into my account I can re-download the games. I did that when I did a re-install earlier this year.

Even though you buy from another retailer shouldn't your game also be in Origin once you register it?  I don't know. Just speculating.

I also don't know that. It requires a lot of gigabites for the Origin I assume so therefore I think every account will get a code awarded to that particular game. I hope it worked like that, but I'm just speculating.
