Birthday Cake Burned Down My Kitchen
« on: August 22, 2011, 05:25:30 PM »
Today I was playing one of my families and the baby was going to age up into a toddler so I thought I'd throw her a birthday party. It all went well untill the table with the cake on it caught on fire! Is this normal? Because I've had the Sims 3 since it came out and that has never happened before.

Yup, that is something that can happen.  I have had it happen a few times.

Was it left on the table for a long time?

Ok, because I didn't know that was possible! Everyone at the party was freaking out while they left the baby on the floor! Sims are really bad parents.

Was it left on the table for a long time?

Not really, I put it there when the party started and when all the guests arrived I made the mom take the baby to the cake, but before they got there it burst into flames.

Sims are dumb. Very dumb. :P

Yeah this is quite rare but possible though never had it happen personally.

I had it happen in the middle of a Challenge, so I didn't even have the option of a do-over.  Really put a damper on the celebrations, I must say!  Thank goodness, no one was hurt.  And I got to see my guests' real personalities.  Everyone screamed and cowered and acted like total fools except teenaged Morty Goth.  He grabbed a fire extinguisher (where was THAT hidden???) and had the fire out before the firefighters arrived.  Go, Morty!

I had it happen to me for the first time two days ago. The child blew out the candles and the cake immediately burst into flames. Luckily there was one brave old sim at the birthday party who was kind enough to put out the flames before the fireman showed up. Thank goodness, or I would have had to replace my whole porch!

I had to replace most of my kitchen, because the fire fighters took forever to show up and I couldn't get anyone to put out the fire.

To my knowledge, there is a higher chance of a fire, the cheaper the table/chairs are. I was playing a game at Chris Steel's house, and every single birthday there would be a fire.

This has happened to me a few times I have pictures from my Smith immortal Dynasty.

Kumquat takes baby Sunset to the cake.

The table is engulfed in flames the family panics as the maid calmly puts out the fire.

Crisis over.

As far as I can remember the family had a pretty expensive table of course it had been in the family for four generations at some point so it was getting old.

There's a reason why they call it "Birthday Inferno Birthday Cake"  :)

I noticed the cake is found in Buy Mode under Outdoor Activities. Maybe it's supposed to be used outside and not inside? Whenever I see someone post pictures of a birthday cake fire it's always indoors. In the recent Baby Boomer challenge I must have used the cake outdoors at least 15-20 times and I never had a single fire.

The one time a birthday cake flamed up on me happened when it was outside.

I had one of my sims burn to death in a fire. She was fixing a t.v for someone. So, now when I get the option to fix someone elses items I pass on that lol.
