Installation order?
« on: August 20, 2011, 10:49:07 PM »
I've accidentally installed the expansion packs I have in the wrong order. So I guess this is really two questions and not just one...
Firstly, how do I remedy this? Is it possible to uninstall without losing all my already-played content?
Secondly, what's the correct order to install expansion packs? I don't have Town Life or Generations.

Thanks in advance :)

There's a thread on how to unistall somewhere.
Install them in the order they came out. So base game, then WA, then the first SP, then Ambitions, then second SP, then LN, then 3rd SP.
Sorry I don't know the order the SPs came out cause I don't have any.

The SP were released as:
1. High-End Loft Stuff.
2. Fast Lane Stuff.
3. Outdoor Living Stuff.
4. Town Life.

I don't feel the order has been fully or clearly stated, so here it is (one more time?)

1. Base game (no way! clap clap Carlos!)
2. World Adventures
3. High-End Loft Stuff/Design and High-Tech Stuff (same thing, just different names depending on where you live)
4. Ambitions
5. Fast Lane Stuff
6. Late Night
7. Outdoor Living Stuff
8. Generations
9. Town Life
10. If you have any store stuff, install it last

As far as your play files, just save/move them to your desktop then just replace the file with the newly originated one from your reinstall.

Does it really matter if there in the same order as they came out?
My brother just bought Ambitions and he installed it then put his Generations disk back in and continued playing.
I was just wondering if it will cause a problem him.

It only matters if you are installing multiple at once.
And the disk you put in is the latest one.

Electronic Arts recommends they be installed in the order of their release.  I don't know what failure to do so will cause.

Well I got base game and ambitions at the same time. I installed base then ambitions. I got WA a couple months later and just installed it. I didn't uninstall anything and I'm not having any problems.

So, you mean that it might only matter if you're installing all of them at once, as in a re-install?

Thats what I think. I'm no technical expert though so I may be totally wrong.

That is correct Pam.  You only need to install them in the order of their release if you are doing a reinstall.  Otherwise, anyone who purchases their games at different times would have to uninstall then reinstall each time they acquired a new game which would make no sense.  They just need to make sure the games update to the highest level at the time of installation.

Also, as long as one remembers to use the latest game disk to play, as Sportsfan said, they should have no issues.

You actually did have to do that with Sims 1. And I think there was a time frame when installing Sims 3 expansions and stuff packs in the wrong order caused a problem, but I've seen something on the official site that said Patch 1.24 should have taken care of it.
