Inviting a Sim up to your apartment

Hi there,
I have what I figure is a rather banal problem. My Sim lives on the 3rd floor. When she invites someone over, they enter the building and "buzz" the buzz-up thingy (I am sure that it the technical term! hehe) But I don't know how to get the visiting Sim to come up? Do I always have to go down and greet them? That takes a while. Isn't there a way to "buzz" them up? Usually, they give up and walk away.
Any ideas?

Do you get the blue box tooltop that asks you to Buzz Up or Ignore?   When you Buzz Up, you'll need some patience.  It takes a looooong time for the visitor to get from the ground floor to your Sim's apartment.

I'd advice moving your Sims out/in again through Edit Town see if that'll help. Good luck.
