Pathetic parties thrown by Townies
« on: August 14, 2011, 09:02:28 PM »
Now that I have LN (yes, I'm late to the party), my Sims receive invitations to parties thrown by NPCs Townies.  Without exception, they are pathetic events.  I'm concerned that I'm doing something wrong.

Whenever my Sims throw parties, there is music, a buffet table (and sometimes a pizza, too), a drinks bar and games.  The designated party area is tastefully decorated, with plenty of dance space, tables and chairs and abundant comfortable seating.  Each guest is greeted individually, even those who show up uninvited.  Each guest is invited to dance and play games.  No guest is ever left unacknowledged.

By contrast, when my Sims attend parties thrown by NPCs Townies, they are never acknowledged.  Often, they aren't even invited into the home or apartment.  Once they do enter the home, no one is partying.  As a matter of fact, there are generally only a few people milling around.  There is no music, so no one is dancing.  There are no games.  There is no food.  There is no specific party area.  Once, my Sim went to a pool party and there was just one sad looking person, vegging in a lounge chair.  My Sim was so put off, she didn't even bother changing out of her swimsuit before going home; she took her cab and subway rides while still in her bikini.

Am I doing something wrong?  Or is this the way NPC Townie parties are?  How I wish I had the option to rate their parties the way they rate mine!

Oh, and is there any detriment to simply skipping these dreadful affairs?  Is there a hit to celebrity status (that would be a bonus, if you ask me)?

I have had the same dreadful experience with parties I am invited to. Perhaps the developers just couldn't implement a good way for NPC parties to happen.

I don't believe there is a hit to one's celebrity level, though, if they don't attend. :-\

Yeah, the NPC parties are bad. And if it a party that starts around 9:00 or later it always seems like the one throwing the party is going to bed went it starts.

I just go to see what kind of trouble I can stir up with the convince to option. Convincing one sim to flirt or fight with another sim.  ;D

Whew.  I'm glad it's not just me, then.  A least now I won't feel bad about skipping them!

Yeah all parties held by sims not in your control are pretty lame. But if my sim doesn't go, they get a message saying sorry you couldn't come. And I think if they do go, they get some celebrity points. So it might be worth just dropping in for a moment.

I'd like to clarify a couple of things.  Usually when we say NPC here, it means the non-playable characters of maid, pizza delivery, firefighter, police, magician , bouncer, etc.  These characters can never be played unless you bring them into your household.  Townies, on the other hand, are the characters who live around town and are the same at the start of every game.  You could play them if you choose by switching active households.  What you're talking about here isn't an NPC maid throwing a party; it's a townie like Gunther Goth or Agnes Crumplebottom.

Now then, having clarified those terms, let me say that you are an expert party thrower.  It's part of the game to learn how to throw amazing parties and you've got it down to exactly what you need to do in order to have an epic party.  A lot of players aren't at that level.  Also, if you think about it, in real life parties aren't always exciting and fun.  People have dinner parties that are quiet and lame all the time.  Or a party to come watch a ball game on television.  So, you can think of these lame townie parties as ones that are just, well, lame.

See, that's why I never send my Sims to townie parties. :P

Pam got a good point there, however. It very well might be that they (the townie parties) are designated to suit their real life counterparts!

Hah!  Yet another reason to skip!!!  (I'm not a fan of the whole celebrity thing :D)

To be honest, these "parties" have been so bad, I've zoomed out a few times to make sure my Sim was in the proper place.  You call this a party??? ((zoom out, notice the Party icon above the house))  Oh.  Yes, I guess you do.  Sad.

Yeah, they're pretty dreary. And if you try to fix food at your host's house, you'll be behaving inappropriately.

If you're a 3-star celebrity or above, however, you need to go, because otherwise you'll start getting public disgrace occurrences -- people spreading rumors about you.

Easy to enough to fix: Bring food in your inventory and lay it on the floor and play an instrument.

This, exactly. I bring some nice hot dogs the founder of my legacy cooked and we're good to go!

Hehe I can just imagine my Sim turning up at the front door with her fire pit and chairs, a few freshly caught fish, a boombox and a softball in her backpack.  Gee, no wonder they'd invite her!  She'd be a one-woman Portable Party Pack!   ;D

My biggest annoyance, is all the parties my Sims gets invited to, are all during his work shift.  Poor Chef.  And yes, the few I have gone to, have been really bad.  I was upset in one game when my Sim broke out his guitar, then after playing for a little bit, set it down on the ground and promptly lost it.  He couldn't pick it up again to put back in his inventory.
