Can food be stored in chests, and will it spoil or not? How about on a community lot?

The answer to that, I'm not sure.

But I always store fruit in them so my Sims won't use it in cooking.

Anything that lasts forever in your Sim's inventory will last forever in the chest as well.  I've never tried to store prepared food in the chest, but I would expect it would spoil there just as it does in the inventory.

Ah, shame, I was planning to use cake as a reward at the end of a tomb.

That would be cool.

I have noticed cake doesn't spoil as fast as other food... Strange...

Where can we get the chest that can store fruits and other items? Is this the treasure chest mentioned in other threads?

They can be bought abroad.

They can be acquired via buydebug too, if one is not against cheating. (Ctrl+Shift+C => testingcheatsenabled true => buydebug)
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

Which you totally are... ;) -cough- Not. -cough- Anyway, I wouldn't recommend that, I find buydebug chests can be buggy.

What place abroad can we buy the chests? Do we buy them at the specialty stores, like where we can buy the tents and the dried food?

They can be bought in the general stores where you get the tents and dried food. :)

To answer the original question: I would have to say prepared food can be stored in a chest without spoiling. I have a couple plates of Ambrosia in a chest in my Dynasty file that have been there since gen1's wife prepared it. Currently, gen6 is a teen and the prepared Ambrosia is still good for eating.

I don't know about on a community lot though.

That's amazing!  The Ambrosia would have long since spoiled in the fridge (unless you have the fridge from the cooking career).  Thanks for sharing that, lilygirl.

I did (and do) have the Kelvin fridge but if you put it in there you run the risk of having someone eat it! So it got stuffed in a chest with the gems and is doing quite well there.
