Help beating level 5 chess players.
« on: February 11, 2010, 12:14:12 PM »
Hello,

I have a sim who is attempting to complete the chess legend lifetime wish. He is level 10 logic, and never lost a chess match until he reached rank 4.  Presumably, this means that I am now challenging rank 5 players. I have now lost 6-7 matches in a row against two different challengers.

This sim is not a genius, but I chose this wish, because this particular sim is just a spare for a legacy challenge, and I am using him primarily as a nanny.

So, I guess my question is what do I need to do to win that last game or who.  Is chess like athletics, where even past level ten your sims still build endurance and run for longer periods of time (for the workout for X number of hours challenges)?  Or is there something I am missing?

Hi TwoCXodX and welcome to the forum...I don't have a lot of experience in this area but in my now defunct game, Mortimer was trying for the Chess Legend.  He was ranked 2 and got stuck by being beaten several times.  Since he was a level 10 in logic the only thing I could think of was to have him keep playing chess, on the board and on the computer.  He finally beat that opponent, and then my game disappeared in the really bad patch. :(

I think it has to do with practice, practice, practice.  Good Luck!

They have a hidden skill level for chess.
From 1 to 10 much like logic.
Play more chess on the actual chess table to improve at chess.

I finally got my first chess legend to lvl 5 and maxed on logic, bshag is right, practice makes perfect.  I did find out something though, my sim was maxed out in logic, lvl 4 in rank.  When I called to invite the next rank chess player, it was someone in her household, the sim only had 5 skill points to the other sims 10, so not quite sure how that works, guess it might be  a ratio thing, but the one with 5 points didn't even play chess that much, funny how this game works.

You might want to spend some points on mid-life crisis and pick up the lucky trait.  I've found that it REALLY helps for that particular LTW.  On a day when they wake up and get the "feeling lucky" moodlet you have a better chance of winning at chess.

I have sufferd the same thing. My sim lost many chess match with his wife (his wife turns out to be the one before last challenge) and he was a genius, level ten chess and with a lucky trait to. His wife has the genius trait to, but was not a lucky one nor she has level 10 in logic. The thing is, she was a very talented martial art master and has meditate so many times that she has a concentration off 1850.
I was almost sure that this was the factor, because I couldn't find another solution. Until I desided to train my chess master in spe in meditating to. And when he got the 'concentration by meditation' moodlet (could be the wrong name, because I translated it from my Dutch game) I desided to give it another try. And voila, he was on the wining hand. The 'concentration by meditation' moodlet is btw so strong he wins the next match in a row to.
Carl, maybe this is something to post in the chess master article to?

Funny thing is, the next ranked chess oponent could be a lower level than your sim.  There again, I think it is just random and like someone said, the more you play and practice you will get it.  It is like any other skill, seems like it takes forever to get to that last step.  I have used lucky in some and others have not used it and find that it did not make much difference, but I guess it depends on what someone considers lucky.
