New Patch
« on: August 03, 2011, 03:21:36 PM »
I just installed the new patch and discovered that my cheats are no longer enabled.  I suppose I have to enable them again.  Has anyone else had this problem...or any other with the new patch?

Well, Gael, I haven't played Medieval in a while, and if not for your post I wouldn't even know about the new patch.  Do you know what it's supposed to fix?  It would sure be nice if they fixed some of the broken quests that won't advance.  I might even go back to playing Medieval.

I haven't had it re-set with other patches, but I did with this one.  It took me a little bit to figure out what had happened, too!  So, to save everyone else the headache: if you install the 2.0 patch, you WILL have to re-enable the testingcheats ini.

Phyrie,
Last time I had to enable cheats, I had my son in law do it.  It's been explained here a dozen times and yet I still can't get it figured out.  I found the program files for EA games medieval and unchecked read only..but could not find the next step.  Can someone help me with this?  Feeling foolish, but the Testing Cheats enabled, etc. prompt did not appear.

After you've unchecked read-only for the file Commands.ini you need to open it in notepad and change TestingCheatsEnabled=0 to TestingCheatsEnabled=1 and save.

If you have Windows 7 you need to move the file out of Program Files before doing that, see this from the guide:

Quote
Extra Instructions for Windows 7 (need admin rights)
1. Browse to Program Files (x86 in some cases)
2. Browse to the ini folder ...\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Ini
3. From the ini folder copy the command.ini file to desktop (and a backup location just in case)
4. Right click on the desktop command.ini file and select Properties
5. In the dialog under Attributes uncheck the Read only checkbox, click OK
6. Open the file, change from
7. TestingCheatsEnabled=0 to TestingCheatsEnabled=1
8. Close and save
9. Copy the file back to the ini folder ...\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Ini
10. In the prompt select Replace, confirm with admin rights

Check Carl's cheat page, about halfway down there are instructions for this and a screenshot of what the file should look like in notepad.

I don't remove the file from it's location at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\The Sims Medieval (TM)\GameData\Shared\NonPackaged\Ini".  I simply right click the file, chose "Properties", make sure "Read Only" is UN-checked, and then open the file to edit it.  Saving a copy is always recommended, of course, but I see no reason to do so on the desktop and then placing the file back in the aforementioned place.

Also with the new patch 2.1somethings, us non-cheats-enabled people can only do one 'brave new world' quest per kingdom.  I'm still iffy on enabling cheats with a new patch out to try to see if brave new world pops up for a full quest list.

I'm nervous to install the new patch. I finally figured out how to get the testingcheatsenabled on, and I like it that way! At least for me, I had to move the file to my desktop to save it, and I have Vista. (Horrid, horrid!) We'll see what more adventuresome/brave simmers have to say after installing it... ???

From the short time I spent in the game the patch seems to have fixed the things the last patch broke.  CAS is nice and fast now.  I undid the testing cheats fix before I installed the patch and redid it again later.  I don't know if that was necessary though.

I wasn't able to get that first step in the dangerous minds quest to complete, so I believe it's still bugged on quests.

I was in the middle of playing a quest when I had to stop just before the patch came out. So when I went back to playing yesterday, the prompt for the patch came up and I waited through the whole 15-20 minute download process. Then this message comes up to do the install and that it will 'reset' any quests I'm currently on.

Now, it would have been nice if they had told you that up front!! ARGG! I was almost at the end of the Seven Medals quest with my blacksmith and he is a level 10 and quite the ladies man! 3 romantic interests and he married one and they now have 3 kids! I don't even have to prompt him to woohoo. He gets it all on his own and he doesn't even have licentious trait!

So not sure what I would lose by installing the patch then, I cancelled it, completed my quest and then installed the new patch. Imagine my surprise when all this 'stuff' came up about Pirates and Nobles! There is even info in the lessons about some of the new objects and actions, although the example screen is all brown. Didn't appear to be any new stuff in the game though.

The privacy update does work very well, though. And I was really glad that they fixed the other two stalls at the Market. That just looked weird! I did have to reset my testing cheats, but the only one I use occasionally is the advance quest, since they haven't fixed that bug yet that I can tell. I had that issue come up in the quest I did after I installed the patch. So I reset my testing cheats and continued on. Linda

I installed the new patch, and the game won't even load anymore.
I even let it run and went to bed. When I woke up it was still sitting doing nothing.
The green loading line stops about a 1/4 inch into the load, and there it stays.

Since installing the patch mine won't even start to load the game! It says service initilization failed! Should I uninstall then re-install the whole thing?

Where can I find this new patch?  I've looked all over and have no clue.

It should prompt you when the game launcher loads up.
