Super-Slow CAW worlds & Travelling
« on: August 02, 2011, 02:38:55 PM »
A while ago I posted about a slow CAW world, if you read it you might remember I couldn't go past the second speed or it would go very slow and eventually crash. The problem has now traveled to super-slow WA towns. The problem is in my Random Wish-Masters file and I want to be able to travel to gain all the extra time and LTH points. I cleared my world cache file again as thats what Chronic told me to do last time and I haven't started up since. If it ends up with me having to end the vacation on the morning of day two I'll be really annoyed.

Actually, I don't think cleaning out WorldCaches will help this time. :-\ This method does help with slow custom worlds like Barnacle Bay and Riverview, but not WA towns, to my knowledge. I don't really have much to suggest this time, sorry.

Hello Chopsticks,

The way the game calculates the path of the Sims / manages their moves across a world is getting more and more complicated with every EP/EP patch. The result is that the code is more and more sensitive to any mistakes made in the routing of a world. This is true for custom made worlds, because some creators spend less time others polishing their work - sometimes just ignoring how much trouble a tiny routing mistake can cause. The very bad news is that it's true for EA made worlds too.

China is notorious for having really big mistakes, and many players have experienced trouble in that world for a long time. But Generations has made it even worst for all the worlds, including Sunset Valley, Twinbrook and Bridgeport. The changes are probably just in the patch (and all the ones that'll come after) and not only the EP itself.

Routing calculation is heavily relying on your CPU. Whenever the game is have trouble finding the path for a Sim, the game lags. Older and lower end computers suffer more than others. Turn off any process that is not needed when you play the game, play offline, play slowly indeed, be light with additional content... Anything that can relieve your computer. And for custom world, be very picky with them :-)

For the challenge, avoid like the plague the area around the Hot Springs in China and anything behind it. It's really awful out there. Try to play on speed 1 as much as possible. If the lag is unbearable, use resetsim *, this will do a resetsim on all the Sims in the world, including yours. They'll be sent home, thus unstuck from whatever place they couldn't escape.

Too late for the warning about the hot springs! I went there to collect some metals and only just escaped, lol. If I send the two sims to bed a different times I can get over the main problem of having to go through the nighttime on speed 1. On speed 1 it only lags a tiny bit so I made it through and I feel it has resolved itself enough to make me go back to China after my first vacation. I hope it doesn't return to the way it was.

@Bella - All my Sims explored Hot Springs (I particularly remember that tomb because I know it's walkthrough by heart) with the pre-Generations patch but I never had lag problems in China. Could you please explain what is wrong with that area? Thanks. :)

There are 2 issues in China:

The first is (sadly) common to all EA games, and many custom worlds too. There are "islands" of routable ground lost into larger zones that are non routable. I'm sorry if this sounds like some kind of awful gibberish, a bit of CAW knowledge is probably required. The game thinks it can send a Sim there but in fact, it's impossible to find a correct path leading or including those islands. Result is a loop of hard thinking that produces nothing = lag :-) And NPC's, when they are called into the world, can be spawned in those islands. Where, of course, they are stuck, since it's all unroutable around them. Much hard thinking and lag again.

The second problem is specific to the Hot Springs. Routing in the world and routing in a lot are handled differently by the game. Different part of the codes takes care of the path of Sims in those 2 different situations. There is a sort of bottleneck in that zone. When a Sim comes from the "town center" (= in world's routing), at some point it must walks through the Hot Springs lot (thus lot routing) to access the rest of the world behind (world routing again). So, this kind of lot breaks world routing.

That was one amazing explanation Bella, thank you! Now we know that even EA worlds aren't perfect... -sigh-

Experience dear. Too many years trying to be perfect and always failing. Eventually, wisdom trickled in  ;)
