How to get the Guitar Star in skills journal?

I think I am just being stupid.  It says play at 10 parties or venues and you'll get the guitar star skill.  I have played the guitar at numerous parties, my own, at venues I have thrown parties at, and I perform countless concerts.  I assume the concerts don't count, but my mind still boggles because I have thrown about 20 parties and played the guitar in all of them.  What am I doing wrong?

This has been a known glitch for quite some time.  It turns out that the performances it's referring to are the opportunities that you get for having guitar skill.  It seems bugged because the only way you can get any hope of completing that challenge is to have no other skills.  If you do, the game will generate opportunities for all of the other skills, too, and you'll almost never get the ones for guitar.

That's infuriating!  There goes my hope of having the perfect, all skills completed, sim.  I left the guitar until last!  And, as you say, I have never seen an opportunity arise for the guitar.

It is infuriating. If you have the patience to try an all-skills Sim again, then you want to do guitar first and nothing else — no cooking, no handiness, nothing but guitar. Take every single guitar opportunity that presents itself and you will complete this challenge in short order.

I got one opportunity to play guitar at an office party, and it was with my multi-skilled Perfectly Happy sim  . It came right towards the end of the challenge and unfortunately I was waiting for the Omni plant opp. so couldn't take it  .

Maybe they fixed the bug with one of the more recent patches.

I don't believe so. At least I have not seen this specifically addressed in patch notes.

Well, I started a Sim up again.  It took me less than 9 days to become a rock star, doing nothing but the guitar, but after a few Sim weeks, she got her Guitar Star skill.

Working Hard at all times, working from home, and having my boss over asking for promotions.  Getting to level 10 took me two working days though (only four hour shifts at work and couldn't work enough whilst at home). 

This wasn't intentional, it's because there was nothing left for me to do.  I had mastered the guitar in no time.

I find it really easy to master Guitar for a sim who gets the the LTW as a teen. I did that with my Gen 2 Spare Pluto. He got it and mastered Guitar in no time at all. Just his grades slipped a bit when I forgot about him and left him playing until 3 am on a Monday night.

It is cheating, but you could also do this to 'solve' this problem:

Be employed in the Culinary Career (Doesn't matter which job you have)
Max out your guitar skill
Type in "boolprop testingcheatsenabled true" in the cheat bar
Shift-Click on your workplace (The Diner)
Click "Force Opportunity"
Cancel any opportunities until you receive one that mentions playing the Guitar
Fulfill the conditions of the opportunity
Repeat 4-7 times until you get the achievement

According to what I've read it does indeed force both oppertunities. You just have to click away the career oppertunities.
Like I've write above it doens't matter which career you take, as long as it is a career that gives oppertunities (all do I thought) this should work.

It's always a good idea to test something like this before posting.  We're getting a lot of hearsay lately and we just end up sorting through it to find out what has been substantiated and what is just rumor.
