Sims and OS X Lion
« on: July 28, 2011, 09:26:12 AM »
I installed OS X Lion on my Mac. Now within a few minutes of playing the game will always freeze. So I'm locked out of playing. So if you have a Mac my advice is wait. Apparently there is no solution to this. If anyone knows a solution myself and many others would appreciate it.

Oh, my gosh. That's frightening. I was on the fence about upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion. That pretty much has put me on the "no" side. At least until a fix comes.

Metro, take my advice and don't upgrade. Now I do enjoy Lion. However, I'm not sure if it was worth losing such a big investment such as my Sims games. Can I link to the main forum? There's a thread on it with a lot of people reporting in on this error.

Apparently some people can play sims under Lion without any problems--according to this thread, it depends on which graphics card you have in your Mac:  http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/413974.page

It looks like NVIDIA GeForce 9400M,  NVIDIA GeForce 9400, and NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics cards will not run Sims3 reliably under Lion.

Note also that some MacBook Pros have two graphics cards, so that you have the option of switching to a compatible one.

I haven't upgraded to Lion yet, so I can't speak from experience on this. I hope you have a compatible graphics card, Metro!

If I was you guys I'd hold off compatible card or not. I can actually get into the game. I can also play for about 5 minutes before it freezes.  Thanks for post in got the main forum.

Lion as a whole...well I give it a meh rating. There isn't much different. I love the full screen. The scrolling is better also. Other than that I don't see much difference between Snow Leopard and Lion. Definitely not enough to cause games to go outta whack.

I have Lion and Sims plays well but my computer is a desktop with a dedicated graphics chip.  The people having problems seem to be ones where the graphics memory is shared.

Lion is fantastic, by the way.   ;D

Lucky you have one of the few cards that still work! It's apparently an issue with the laptops mainly.

Yes, I am fortunate.  My heart goes out to the ones who can't play as there has been next to no acknowledgement or information from EA.  :'(

Update: There still isn't any "official" word from EA Games or Apple. However, I've talked to people with Apple developer accounts. They say OS X Lion 10.7.2 update fixes all the issues. However, that update is still in developer beta. So I still can't play.

In my own saga I have been talking, complaining, contacting, until EA probably is tired of me. To "compesate" for my "displeasure" they gave me Hidden Springs.

Yes they gave me content for a game I can't even load and play! *facepalm*

I think that is pretty generous of them really.  You will be able to play it eventually.
