Laundry

I was wondering whether you need the Ambitions EP for laundry to be available, because I think the Sims Store has laundry items to purchase. So my question: is the Ambitions EP required for laundry to be able to work? Thanks!  :)

I think you only require the patch that came around when Ambitions was released. So if you're fully patched, you should be able to do laundry... correct me if I'm wrong anyone?

When you buy the laundry items from the Store, it automatically patches to involve Laundry. As such, you can do laundry without Ambitions. This is one of the prime reasons (I think) that the laundry items are in the Store. I'm pretty sure you do need to buy both the washing and laundry machines for it to work, as the clothesline isn't included.

You do need Ambitions for laundry.
Or you can buy a washing machine from the store.

I believe we got a washing machine and a dryer with Town Life Stuff, didn't we? If so, then we definitely can do laundry without Ambitions.

Chronic is right, Town Life introduces washing machines also. If you don't have Ambitions, then you won't have the clothes line.

Need means you must have it or else it won't work. Ambitions, TLS, and the store washing / dryer machines all introduce the laundry system. As such, you do not need Ambitions. I don't get where you got the idea of needing Ambitions.

I think you do need Ambitions if you are purchasing only the washing machine and do not have Town Life. You would require a dryer or a clothes line for the whole thing to function correctly.

Likely, the ability to do laundry came in a patch for those who don't have Ambitions.  However, laundry will not show up in your game unless you have purchased and placed laundry items (hampers, washers or driers) on the lot.  There are several of each available for purchase from the Sims Store, and as far as I am aware no items in the store have an expansion requirement.

Hosfac is exactly right about this.

The washer and dryer in Town Life do not "introduce" laundry to the game.  Stuff packs do not add anything to the game play.  It's just another style of washer and dryer for your Sim to use.  If you're patched up enough, you'll be able to do laundry using the items from Town Life.  Same goes for the ones in the Sims 3 Store.  Nothing in the Store adds anything to the game play.  Laundry becomes available in the by either by installing Ambitions or installing the patch that was released at the same time.

Pam, you might be wrong about that, I'm not sure but the Store says that the Laundry Machines 'Includess additional gameplay' as a Green Star. Hover over the star and it says that. Heres a link to the Ultra Wishy Washer. I know in that case it might just be as Hosfac said but it isn't just on the Washing/Dryer Machines. So you probably do need both for it to function if you don't have Ambitions.

Also the new Set for Magic adds gameplay to the game.

As a matter of fact, here is the official clarification.

And it says:  "Just remember to keep your game up to date," meaning patches.

It adds additional game play because without a washer, dryer, or laundry hamper, you don't get dirty laundry.  Adding mechanics to the game would require a change to the overall program.  This is not something that could simply be attached to an item.  If it was just a new interaction with an object, sure.  But this affects more than just the object.  It affects the entire lot.

So if you're game is up to date, the ability to do laundry is most likely present even if you don't have Ambitions.  But if you don't have laundry related items in your game and placed on the lot, then it's never triggered.

That's exactly correct, Hosfac. Do we need to discuss this anymore?
