Look Here

I just got mine to work. There was a really helpful thread on the official TS3 Forum.

"There are three options for updating to the new patch. The list of options start from the best way to the "I WANT THIS UPDATE!" way.

Option One

Step One: Find your EADM. (EA Download Manager)
Step Two: Update it! (Should become EA's Origin system)
Step Three: Launch The Sims 3 and Update.
Step Four: Enjoy Simming!

Option Two

Step One: Manually Download Origin
Step Two: Install it
Step Three: Launch The Sims 3 and Update
Step Four: Enjoy Simming!"

Edit: I removed option 3. It involved an .exe file and won't open properly by clicking it here.

I remember I used something to manually download my last update which worked very well but now I can't find it.  ::)

I don't know if anyone has noticed the shaded icon for the stuff pack "Town Life" or not, it is at the bottom of the launcher after the Generations icon.  It is shaded out like it is waiting for the game, strange.  If this update is an update that was suppose to be with the stuff pack, it could very well be causing the same problems like the pre patch for WA.  Remember, there was an update a couple of days before the release and then they pulled it from the site.  Some people it caused problems for, others it didn't.  Not sure if this is the same thing or not, but I am kind of glad I can't update.

Well it is not available to those on Macs.  Our update buttons are greyed out even though the Launcher will tell us that there is an update.  >:(

Hi all, I'm salty's sister. :)  When I read what all the patch fixed I was like, okay, wow they fixed the photography issue.  That was a major disappointment when that went glitchy after Gen.  So, I install the patch, which went like a dream, no hangups, no signs popping up, it was the 650 mb one.  Then when I went to my vampire family, which I have played since last Oct, I was playing a house of a single sim who is trying to marry one of the daughters.  The thumbnail pic was gone, just green space. :-\  So I tried to change households with dread and sure enough, everything locked up...this was after I used the icon for the easy changing after Gen.  So I went back out, did the same thing only this time used the button on the edit town panel...still nada.  By this time I'm getting pretty steamed.  So basically this neighborhood is toast.  Not kind words for EA at this point.  In desperation I even tried going back to a restore point before the patch was installed, then when the sign came up to install the patch I just x'ed it out.  At this point the game wouldn't even start...some sign that said there was a file installed preventing the sims 3 from loading. ???  So I reversed the restore point and now I have the patch anyway. :-\  Oh and the camera bug wasn't fixed in my game...same as it ever was. :(

I'm still keeping my vampire town in hopes that maybe installing Town Life will help.  I noticed the shadow of the TL icon on the launcher which makes me think this patch may have not meant to have released before TL was.

I'm really disgusted, to put it mildly.  I had absolutely no problems downloading and installing the patch but when I went to play my current immortal dynasty, the main file and both back-up files were broken.  In the main file one of my sims is invisible and cannot be controlled - I've heard of this problem but never actually had it happen before.  In all 3 files if I try to send my sims to China they get lost in transit and no one is there when the load screen finishes.  I've had this happen intermittently before, so I always save before I let my sims travel.  Usually just exiting the game and restarting from the save point fixed the problem.  Not this time - no matter what I did or how many times I tried, I just couldn't get my sims to appear.  I had the same problem with my decadynasty file that I had started before the patch, but when I created a new game I had no problems traveling.

I wish there was a way to fix bugs and glitches without ruining games in progress.  My immortal dynasty is a wipe and I'm not even going any further with my decadynasty file.  I'm just going to dump it and start fresh since it was fairly new.  I'm really upset at the moment because I put a lot of myself into my immortal dynasty and it hurts to know it was wrecked because I did what I was supposed to do to keep my game up to date.   :'(

Here are the direct links for the manual incremental patches (to bypass the Laucher/Origin combo).

Edit: I removed those links since there are recent signs around the community that those small patches are a cause to the Invalid File error. Sorry if those caused any trouble to you. The only options so far are either patch through launcher (with updated Origin software) or patch manually with the super patch posted by MoonsAreBlue here above.

The super cumulative patch posted by MoonsAreBlue (650mb) is all right for PC, any region and any current patch level of the base game.

Before patching, back up your 'The Sims 3' folder, always! And CAW users can download a new version (and back up their projects before installing too).

Good luck everyone  :D

@MoonsAreBlue:

Your link isn't working.

@BellaClo:

When I click the links you provide, it starts an immediate download on my computer.  This makes me a little nervous because I don't know the precise source of these links.  I see "ea.com" in the address, but I don't know what "akamai.cdn" is.

@Katluvr:

I hope you really don't feel you're being sabotaged.  That implies that someone is deliberately trying to damage your game.  Regardless of the trouble we continue to have with Electronic Arts and the updates to the game, they are not deliberately trying to harm your game in any way.

Everyone needs to remember and take to heart that you need to back up your game before making any major changes.  A fresh re-install is also a good idea at these times.  Lastly, keep in mind that if you're running any third party mods, your game may not work properly and the update will fail.

I'm ashamed to say this... but I forgot of removing my custom content. Could the "Invalid File Found" error be connected to that? I can't see any other reason to it appearing. :-\

Well, yes, all kinds of errors could be due to that. But in this case a lot of people are having the same problem with this patch (check out the EA forum as well) so it probably just isn't working properly.

Try updating Origin/EA Download Manager and try again? Or wait a little while.

I also had the "Invalid File Found" error, and I managed to patch my game using this method:

Option Three

Step One: Click the link and start downloading the update.

http://akamai.cdn.ea.com/eadownloads/u/f/sims/sims...s/TS3_1.24.3.0120xx_update.exe

Step Two: Install the Update
Step Three: Launch The Sims 3 and check if you are using the most recent version
Step Four: Enjoy Simming!

The link above doesn't work because it isn't a website - clicking it on the official forum will start the download for you. The original post is here.

Now, I'm not a computer whiz, so even though my game is working now I'm not 100% sure I haven't messed it up. It seems to be fine, but use caution as always, guys. :)

Oh gosh, all these problems! I'm not touching that update, no way, not until things are running smoother. I agree with everyone who says this update wasn't meant to be released yet, it sounds as if that explains why it's not appearing in some of our lanchers..

I was getting the "Invalid File Found" error also but after reading MoonsAreBlue post Option 1 worked for for me. Updating the Download Manager. After that the update installed with no problems.

I agree with Saltypaws 99.9%
It can't be CC because I have none, it can't be mods because I got none and all the files seem to be in place.
I am just going to wait, it's not like I am going to die without that update right?
By the way, we know so much more than EA.  ;D
