Ridiculous 24-48 hour downtime
« on: July 24, 2011, 11:01:01 AM »
My entire network, including the forum and guide will end up going down for 24-48 hours because of a mistake by 1and1, our former host. They did not transfer the domains to a package and instead deleted them. I'm hoping that I can get this out to as many people as possible before then... but we will go down gradually depending on where you live.

This is a mistake on their part that only hurts me. They're even making me pay to move them. I hate dealing with corporations.

I am putting in the order tonight. Hopefully it'll be ready for tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Disgusted.

How unfair!  I just hope it really was a mistake and not their idea of a little going-away present.  Whether or not it was accidental, though, the result is the same.  Thanks for letting us know, Carl.

When is this expected to happen? I'm also disgusted that they are making you pay for their mistake, can you not file a complaint or something?

My back is against the wall or I wouldn't even let them remain registrar (the company that assigns www names). It'd take about a week to switch registrars and the sites would probably be down that long.

Maybe we'll get lucky and the forum won't disappear. So far it's just Medieval, but I'm on the edge of my seat.

Unfortunately with corporations society tells you to look elsewhere for your service but that won't keep you from getting burned. I intend to put up a nice page on my alt site explaining my situation with them to other webmasters. That's the best we can do. I won't recover anything from them, I'm confident of it. But maybe I can cost them an account or two through a brutally honest assessment of their services. Sadly that didn't stop me from blindly signing up with them a few years ago, so they'll still be around to mess with their customers.

Oh my gosh! That's horrible. I don't think I can't go 48 hours without checking the forum. I hope nothing happens to the forum and they are able to fix it fast. I don't understand tech talk, but that sounds important. I hope they are able to do something.

48 hours?! I think I'll suffer from withdrawal. That's horrible. Who would be stupid enough to delete whatever you just said? I'm going to be spending a lot of time on Facebook and Twitter then.

I think it`s starting to happen because stuff is acting up like my scrolling and loading is getting slower by the minute. I don`t think it`s just my phone. But hey people, go outside and get some fresh air until the forum is back up. Just kidding. Stay inside and play the Sims 3! ;)

I just spent like two days Camping a forest, desperate to be back to the Forum and now I get told it is going down for almost 48 hours! The world is so cruel!  :D

Grr! Words cannot explain how annoyed I am at this! Will also be spending a lot of time on MSN and Facebook, and getting withdrawal symptoms. Carlos, yes you're right, it's happening to me too.

Hey Carl,

Maybe I'm mistaken, but you do have a backup of the Medieval part right? I mean: somewhere to back it up where the cooperation you are working with can not delete it.

And I was about to post my new story. Oh well. I guess I'll have more time to play my other games since I can't write it. Bleh!

This is terrible! Luckily I will be on a camp during that time but still.
If I wasn't on this camp I probably would die without this place for that long.

Replaced bad word with 'is terrible.' Please don't abuse in your next posts. It's against the forum rules. Thanks! Leto

Ack, poor Carl!  :-[  Just when you thought you could sit back and relax a bit, nonsense like this happens.  So sorry, dear.  Here, have a *hug*.

Thanks for the support. I'll get that relaxation in yet. For now it looks like we're pretty lucky. For some reason Medieval is still the only one that went all the way down. Right now all my other sites are up and the process of updating the address has begun. Now that things are a little further along I can say that everything should be out of the danger zone by Tuesday morning or so.

Also yes, Leto, I have multiple backups of everything :)
