Toddler Skills & Books
« on: February 07, 2010, 06:21:38 AM »
I've noticed my toddler Sims seem to only end up earning skills that are Logic (pegbox), Musical (xylephone), and Artistic (one of the set of 3 toddler books).  I had one that read all the books and gave them advanced Writing skills.  Is this it?  Like what are the books like Fun&Profit are supposed to add to?  Have I just not clicked on the appropriate thing once they have grown up to notice they earned the skills already?  Doing something wrong?

You have done nothing wrong.  Those 4 skills is what they learn as toddlers.  If you have them play with the blocks table as children they will learn handiness and the toy oven for cooking.

I've never been able to figure out specifically what the other sets of books do.

Well, I know the Jimmy Sprocket books do absolutely nothing, unless maybe provide a source of fun.

I wish those darn Jimmy Sprocket books gave them some Visa points- after all they are books about strange far away places!

Three in each set.

Counting, profit and whatever the other one is...are for logic.

Bluish eggs, destination and whatever the other one is in that set...are for writing.

Don't stray, hand prints and finger painting...are for painting.

Jimmy sprocket books are just for fun.

Ohhh!  Thanks for that information!  But, if the counting and profit books are for logic, then what about the pegbox?  It also skills logic.  I wonder if the kid will start logic even higher if he/she does both.

I think if they do the pegbox and all the logic books, they start with logic 4. Not positive though because I don't have much experience with Sims child raising.

I don't have the patience for it. I teach them to walk, talk and potty then get out the cake as quickly as possible.  :D

I guess if you were trying to do a max out sim though, reading all the books and doing all the skill toys is the way to go.

You should try reading the books to them at the library. It's crazy fast and only takes a couple of minutes for each book. If that long.

You know they can read the books themselves, right?  They usually have fun doing it too.

You still have to feed them, put them in the crib, and can't leave them home alone.

I didn't think about taking them to the library, but i've never really had time for toddlers in the game.

I forget to feed the fish, and they expect me to be able to take care of a baby?  :D

I have a little routine...
Toss in the air, Change diaper, Feed on Floor
Cue up baby to go potty, Cue up baby to read book
Adult goes and takes a shower or brushes their teeth-- something that doesn't take too long
When that's done, Adult can put them in the crib (if tired) and/or empties potty

I only have to do it about twice a day I think?  They don't wake up in the middle of the night either.
My adult in my game paints and writes though, makes it easier.
