I think... because Carl is highly developed in the writing skill (so he seems to me) and as you know: for writing you need to sit down a lot. So what's the best thing you be in that case? A Couch Potato! :D

So I didn't get Carl in as a girl but I got him in a neat pirate outfit for Special Occasions. ;D

He (well you, Carl) currently resides in Barnacle Bay with Indigo Dreamweaver, and Carlos Estavez. (aka Charlie Sheen).
