The internet. ;) Also, it`s the China incense that gives a memory boost.

Well, if you want to list everything that helps with skill learning, don't forget the most obvious one - having a Sim in a good mood!

I'm really concerned that my vampires skill really slowly. It takes hours to go up a level. I lean towards the theory that this happens because they are turned and not born as vampires. Anyways. I'm seeking to find a way at the fastest rate possible.

So far I got this complied list of things that benefit to the initial pace of skilling. Please tell me if they can be combined together, too.

  • the Library and its moodlet, too

The Library definitely grants a reading speed boost for skill books. But, no boost to my knowledge for non-reading skilling — i.e. a guitarist would not learn any faster in the Library.

Taking a class does seem to be a fast way of getting that first skill point, but you can only take the class once.

What about exercising at the gym?  I know it didn't used to be faster but I'm wondering if that has been fixed yet.

Also, for cooking, one of the stoves - I think it's the Tri-Forge one - increases the speed of learning the cooking skill.

Why would you be playing guitar in a library anyhow? ::)

Schipperke, the LN cooker does that too!

Well, there you are.  I didn't know that.  That's what I get for uninstalling LN!  ;)

Wow guys. Thanks for the tips. Totally adding these to the list. :D

@Carlos - I checked Sims Wiki, it doesn't seem to confirm your information.

@Metro - Hmm, that is worth a note for sure. Thanks!

@Schip - Yep, good mood, that's a bonus! Those classes are very helpful because I remember Carl noting that he noticed that usually the first level of any skill is the one that takes the most time to learn. I think the gym bug got fixed in one of those later patches - either 1.21 or 1.22. I didn't know about the stove bonus. Learn something new every day!

Why would you be playing guitar in a library anyhow? ::)

Carlos, if it did increase the Guitar skill faster, I'd make my Sims play guitar at the library, too. ;)

Would you mind noting the name of the stove? Thanks.

On the subject of traits - I'm not sure if Loves the Outdoors helps Sims learn Fishing and Gardening or if it just helps them keep their mood up while doing those activities.  Does anyone know for sure?

Also, Bookworm is useful for a lot of skills, not just Writing.  Because Bookworms read faster, any skill that can be learned through reading is faster for them.  Especially if they do their reading at the Library.

Oh, no worries. I'll see if I can find it trough a Google search! ;)

Will check that too, thanks for the mention.

It's also good to keep in mind that certain skills give you a 2-for-1 skill gain.  I've had Sims reach Level 5 or 6 Handiness doing Inventing, even though they never actually worked on their Handiness skill.  Same with Athletic and Martial Arts.

And did you miss my comment about Bookworm increasing the skill gain of any skill reading?  I think that's an important one and makes Bookworm one of the best all-round traits.

I guess so - I'll add it now, thanks. Also, just checked the Loves the Outdoors info, it's correct! The trait benefits to Fishing and Gardening.

Are you sure about the LN stove (Streamlined Stove)? In the game it doesn't show as learning the skill faster. Only the Tri-Forge shows learning the cooking skill faster in the description.
A clear conscience is usually a sign of a bad memory.

When a Sim is cooking on the Tri-Forge stove, they get a moodlet "learning faster" or something like that (it looks like the moodlet they get at the library).  Do they get that moodlet with the other stove?  If not, then I don't think there's any increased skill gain.
