Bugs don't spawn with high end loft.

Not sure if it's the patch or the stuff pack, but EA is aware of the problem I guess. Just thought i'd let you know in case you were wondering where the bugs went. Now the assassin bugs are more elusive than ever.

That kind of sucks for me since that's one of the first things I do in a new game.

I just noticed that now in my pre-existing game. I don't have the stuff pack yet, but bugs don't show up anymore. The Collection Helper will show where they are, and when I zoom in, I can hear the bugs, but not see them.

Annoying glitch.

I've also just done my first bug collecting (not butterflies but beetles) and picked up a water beetle that was just a black blob on the ground.  When my sim had it in her hand it turned blue but when in inventory or a display case it goes black. 

I'm not using the latest SP or patch so I guess it's an older issue that I've just noticed.

Yeah, this happened when I installed it. The patch they released yesterday, 1.9.

I have the same issue with that most recent patch, but by chance, I found where they were.  They're underground!  I was exploring the Abandoned Barn in China, and there are a couple of bug spawning places right outside the walls.  While my Sim was in the basement, I saw the bugs crawling around in the black space outside of it.  I could click on them and choose 'catch', but my Sim complained he couldn't get to them.

EA sneaked in patch sumthin/2.5/3.1 that supposedly fixes HELS invisible bugs issue (which is different from underground fire ants issue from WA).

I noticed this after my game updated itself with the latest patch (that claimed to fix the bugs issue).  I know I looked for the assassin bugs in the emperor's mini-statue and still couldn't see them, until I happened to go into the abandoned barn's cellar--then I could see two different types of bugs scuttling about in limbo.  Did the patch fix the issue for everybody else?  Maybe I should try updating it again.

I hadn't heard of a bug issue with World Adventures.  I installed WA along with the base game, and I used to see bugs around.

My Sim just came back from Shang Simla and didn't have any trouble at all with the Assassin Beetles.  When you zoom onto them, it takes a few seconds for them to appear.  They disappear randomly and then come back to the surface.

The World Adventures bug bug thing I mentioned is those (and other) beetles going underground. The completely different HELS bug that's supposedly fixed now is with all sort of bugs (including flying ones) either not spawning or not being visible at all.

Yeah, I noticed that EA slipped in that patch today as well. But, why do they fix only a few things at a time, and now I'm worried about new bugs.

I had to end a challenge due to assassin bugs not showing up and that's after the last patch after HELS.  No collection helper so that's no help.  Another challenge and only one spot showed bugs when I needed 2.
 
Still don't have the 1.9 patch to fix photographing the theater cause the dl aborted soon after starting and never came back...

This just keeps gettin better and better.

Don't use the launcher/EADM to download patches, both are way too buggy to be reliable. Try manual patching instead.

I've seen you recommend this before and I'm not sure why. I'm on a Mac and I don't know if things are smoother, but I have 0 problems installing patches via the Launcher/OSX dock. I click the application icon on my desktop dock, I immediately get a notice if a patch is available and if I want to install it. It's always been bug free.
