The Exchange
« on: July 08, 2011, 03:00:52 PM »
I'm having a bit of trouble trying to figure things out. Recently I had this weird idea of using the Official Exchange since I finally got my account working there. I am not offended if there is CC in the things I download since I already have loads in my game - however one thing I am hesitating about is way important than CC. The girl doll dressed. Is it still alive? I mean, if I'm downloading recent items, is there any possibility that this horrible doll will be attached to it?

Another thing I've come to consider. Even on CC sites, I usually download only items of 'featured' or popular/trusted creators. I want to do the same thing on the Exchange. I know about BlueMurder and I did download some of her patterns, but I am not aware of any others. Help? Suggestions?

Thanks in advance. :)

Curtis Paradis is considered a 'well known' member.

Aren't there tools going about that you can use to test if your content is safe or not? I heard about a 'cleaning' tool.. I'm not too sure about these sorts of things as I've got very, very little CC in my game but you might want to check that out. :)

Yeah, I know about those, but it just takes up the much needed (and little) time I have. Oh, and by the way, I think the tool you mentioned comes from a modding site, so I guess you should remove the name. :-\

Okay, I've edited it. :)

There isn't really any other way to tell if you have bad CC, I don't think.

I've downloaded some amazing female sims from the EA site. The person who made them is (hope I don't make a mistake) marty98. I've had no problem with them (i have 4 and the outfits are to die for). I tweek them a bit because I think one is too skinny and some outfits don't fit the personality I'm giving my sim.
I also downloaded an amazing house from the same person.

Looks awesome! Did the hair come with the download or did you change it later?

@Chronic
My best suggestion is only download from the people who can honestly confirm that they do not have Girl Doll Dressed, or never have had it.
For instance, I recently uploaded It V.2 to the Exchange. It's totally safe to download, because I never download anything from the Exchange - only the Store and the Swap Shop here. And even then, I'm wary. I also regularly check my launcher and game for traces of the doll.

The hair came with one of the downloads. I downloaded 4 sims from this person and got a bunch of nice clothes and hairstyles. Plus the house gives mega good moodlets. It's awesome. This one was called Judy Cole by the maker (I hope I'm right that it's Marty98).

Here's another pîc:

Edit: didn't name the pics:

Thanks Seabody, that's one thing I'll keep in mind. To check the launcher every now and then. Thanks. :)

I see. The thing is, it is obvious CC, and without the "cleaning" tool we don't know if it is bad or not. In fact all CC is bad so I'll avoid that topic. Anyways, thanks for sharing. I do hope Girl Doll Dressed is dead and gone. -shudders-

Seabidy, I've heard of this Girl doll dressed; but, don't quite understand what it is about. I have downloaded a lot of things and my game works with the same quirks as everyone else. The usual glitches everyone seems to be having.

It is just a very very bad CC object that causes multiple game lags and attaches itself to every file in-game, just like a computer virus. Once the first file it was attached to was uploaded to the Exchange, everyone who downloaded it, got the virus - and so on, until the count reached thousands. It was about a year or so ago. Luckily, players (and not EA, apparently) found a solution, to delete its file from DCBackup folder, but recently the evil doll has resurfaced. That's why I am being cautious. I do like some things on the Exchange, but am afraid of the doll. :-\ Thus I am seeking trusted creators.

Girl Doll Dressed is the most famous corrupted CC in the Simming World. Even EA knows about it, and warns people to uninstall it before Updating the game.
Now, it was created by a newbie CC-maker, but very badly. It attaches itself onto .thesims3pack files that you upload, and will spread like wildfire through the Exchange. Since then, the maker has taken it off the Exchange, and re-meshed it to make it safer.
Of course, it still reigns havoc. And Chronic posted at the same time as me. Both pieces of information should be correct (Both mine and his).

And how do you find trusted creators? I have not had much problem in my game, except for the same glitches everyone is complaining about (parents not returning from vacation; some lag in movement; etc.).

How do you uninstall it? and how do you know if you have it?
