Come on guys. You've all have seen way to manny horror movies. Forget the torture, just pay the bills and keep the advice here family friendly. ;)
Oh, about the repo man: he doesn't have any interesting hidden trait your sim can inherate now, does he?

Leto, I'm pretty sure they are being family friendly. I'm sure that at some point in time just about every family has imagined doing away with the bill collector in some horrible way.

I honestly don't see a way you can be dirt poor on a Sims game (which means you'll most likely be able to pay your bills before he comes). It's probably because I play on console though. One thing I hate about the console version is that there's not enough stuff to waste your money on. So, likely when the repo-man comes he goes after the most expensive item, then proceeds with smaller items such as t.v's, etc...

I don't think deleting the doors would foil the repoman.  I've never tried it, mind you, but I did once use that as a strategy to try to keep burglars out.  My sim was very poor and couldn't afford the burglar alarm.  Every night I would move the outside door to an inside wall, feeling very proud of my solution.  Until the burglar came and pulled out some kind of super-vacuum that sucked up stuff right through the walls.  If the burglars have such equipment, I would expect the repoman to be able to do this too.

Then you've never moved a sim into the largest empty lot in town and built a house around them.  I tend to do this as a rule.  Doing this in Sunset Valley initially leaves you with $1,800 to buy all of your starter furnishings, which isn't enough to buy much of anything.  And when you consider the fact that you don't start off making the big bucks in any career, being dirt poor for a good amount of time is rather easy.

Even in that case, if you make your Sim a vampire musician that is a kleptomaniac and put a subway in your town, they'll be swimming in cash in a day or two. :P

@Schipperke: Deleting the doors does absolutlely nothing to the repo-man. One might suggest that he is Criss Angel, perhaps?  And he develops the ability to teleport in your home. XD (On the 360 version atleast)

@Hosfac: I have indeed built a house on the most expensive lot. (360 version; Landgraab; The Clique). Several attempts at dimenishing my money always fails. Plus I usually have 300, 000+ plus on each new file before moving.

@Everyone: When you say "very poor", what exactly do you mean?

When I say 'very poor', I mean when you have to sell an almost-essential (such as the toliet, a bin, a sink, an extra door) just to pay the bills.

I guess my whole point in starting this thread was to see if anyone knew how long you could keep going with no job and a house. Sometimes when I start a new household I want to use all their time to work on their skills first so I hit the old motherlode cheat. Then they can have what they want/need and still be able to work on skills all day.

I was just wondering if you had to keep up a house, pay bills and had no job what would the repo man take? Your Sim could still survive at home if they still had a refrigerator and a stove. They might not like the diet but they could still eat the basics and keep a sleeping bag in their inventory.  If it got so bad the repo man took the bathroom basics they have other places in town like the gym to shower.

I might have to try this to see,

Super sucker thing to remove items, eh?  Ah well.  Removing doors seemed like such a good solution.  Guess I'll just have to remain an upstanding cititzen and pay my bills. lol

Then it must be way easier to make money in the 360 version, or way cheaper to build a house.  The average daily pay for rabbit-hole careers is about $150 a day, and even with frequent raises, it usually takes a few sim weeks just to build a room so your sim isn't sleeping under the stars.

@Everyone: When you say "very poor", what exactly do you mean?

When I say "very poor," I mean that when they first start off, they have to live at the fire station just so they have access to showers, toilets, entertainment and food.  At their home lot they usually have access to some of them, but not all of them at once.  I've had sims that were so poor that they had to eat cereal because they couldn't afford to make an Autumn Salad.  Now that's poor!

It probably is "cheaper" to build houses on 360. I assume the PC version is more complex than the lesser console versions. I'll have to test some of this stuff out, but not once have I not been able to pay the bills before the repo-man comes. (Unless, I choose not to pay them willingly.)

Thanks for elaborating. I was under the impression that you had atleast $500+. (To me that would be considered "very poor", but hell! You've seem to got even lower than that. XD

He will take as much items to compensate the value of the bills you didn't payed in time. If you don't have enough items to compensate he will take the money off your sims bank account.
The repo man will never take items that sims need to survive however. So toilets and fridges are practically fine.
After the repo man has come (he wouldn't return to take more) you will still need to pay for the bills.

This must have changed because with my new sim in her first house and first few days of play, the repo man came and the only thing he took was the toilet. Made me mad so I didn't pay my bills and the next time he came I killed him. His grave was left in the living room and I had to carry it to the grave yard.

Oh my! this did make me laugh.   I was thinking, never mind no doors, just have a nice normal house with a fence all around and no gate.  I'm sad to be disillusioned.  I can't remember if the repro man has ever taken my toilet, but, the burglar has, and the police failed to catch him :(.

So if you may need help I got some, you may already know but there is a cheat to get money all you need to do is press control+shift+c to get the cheat bar and then type in motherlode, this w,as you can always pay your bills! Or there is a cheat where you press the keys I have said and then type in traits.equip_trait Frugal and your bill becomes smaller!
