How far will the repo man go?
« on: July 07, 2011, 11:32:16 AM »
I'm just wondering if anyone has ever tested the limits of the repo man.  If you don't pay your bills he comes with his vacuum and takes your stuff.

But, how far does he go?

Will he keep coming back to take more things? What happens if your house is empty? Will he start taking flowers? Trees? Your house?  Can he make you homeless?

I don't know. I always pay my bills so I don't have to worry about that kind of stuff. My guess would be that he would continue to take things from your home that have a value, however small that value might be.

He will take as much items to compensate the value of the bills you didn't payed in time. If you don't have enough items to compensate he will take the money off your sims bank account.
The repo man will never take items that sims need to survive however. So toilets and fridges are practically fine.
After the repo man has come (he wouldn't return to take more) you will still need to pay for the bills.

What happens if there is $0 in your bank account and if you don't ever pay the bills?  I'm just wondering about all this as a possible story line.  You have sims with very little money, living with the barest of necessities and no job.

I think the sim just stays with their necessities and the bills stay, and as soon as they get enough money to pay for the bills, the money goes and the amount that has to be paid drops. Just a guess from what people are saying, I haven't actually tested that out. :)

I think this could be an interesting twist on poor/homeless sims to test.

Actually, I know the definitive answer to this as I've recently had this occur in one of my games.

I had a brand new sim who fancied himself an inventor.  After reaching level 5, he realized that the junkyard just wasn't meeting his needs, so he went and blew up the jet fighter statue at the military base.  He got off with a warning, and happily went to his "home" (which was little more than a vacant lot at the time) and got to work.  Some time later, he started getting low on scrap again so he went and blew up the statue in the park.  Even though a good deal of time had passed, he got fined for blowing it up.

This angered him, and triggered a mad-bombing spree across Sunset Valley.  While he was busy racking up fines, I noticed that the jet fighter statue had been replaced in front of the military base.  I figured that he might as well go for broke, so he returned to the scene of the original crime and blew it to smithereens again.  Let me tell you:  that statue is very expensive.  The fine was somewhere in the neighborhood of $38,000.

Satisfied that his honor had been fully avenged, he returned home and checked the mailbox to see how much his reckless behavior would set him back.  The price tag was well over $100,000...a bit out of range for a single, self-employed inventor.  He didn't have much to begin with, but he needed everything he did have.  Such a sad day for this poor, misguided individual to be sure.

A couple days later, I got a notice that the repo man was coming to literally take everything this poor guy owned.  I decided that he wasn't going to go without a fight, so as soon as I got that message I entered buy mode and put everything into the family inventory.  If "the man" wanted his stuff, he was going to work for it.

The repo man showed up to the house a little while later.  He walked to the mailbox, stood there for a few sim minutes and walked back to his truck and left.  The bills were gone, and I spent a very short time pulling his meager belongings out of the family inventory and placing them back where they were.

That's really funny hosfac. So if you hadn't put the stuff in the family inventory he would have taken all of it?

I have a homeless family right now. They usually have only about $5, enough to buy an apple. I can't pay the bills, so we'll see what happens.

He probably would have.  I had a much wealthier family where the person who had the "No Bills Ever" reward died and I just forgot to pay the bills because it had been so long since they had to worry about it.  Their bills were about $5,000 and when the repo man came he took a lot of stuff.  He took the wall mounted television, the stove, all of the windmills (they had 5), and a bunch of other things.  He spent more than 6 sim hours at the house just vacuuming stuff up.

The poor inventor guy had a bed, a toilet, a shower, a refrigerator, a stove, one counter, a boom-box and his inventing table...and all bargain basement items, too.  He didn't even have a sink at the time.  He would have been squatting at the fire station again.  :P

Hosfac, that story so made me laugh. Did any money come out of the inventor's bank account?

When the repo man comes, he just takes household items.  He doesn't touch the household funds.  Since there was nothing for him to confiscate, he left empty handed and empty pocketed.

Although, at times I wish they would just take the money if you actually had it.  The rich family I mentioned had more than enough money to pay the bills they owed.  It had just been so long since they had any bills, I just forgot about it and somehow missed the notice to pay them.

I usually do the "no bills ever" also. It's not having the  money I just always forget to check the mailbox.

But I'm still wondering what the repo man would have taken had you not put the items in the family inventory.
