Before, I concentrated on skills and not reading; but, after reading this thread, I now have my sims spend more time reading and have noticed what you said Hosfac. Now to get my non-reading daughter to open a book. Ha!

I've learned a lot from this thread, thanks to everyone who posted. Same here, I used to focus on skill building activities rather than reading, except for the obvious skill books one can buy from the store or read from the library. Yes, I've noticed some books take longer to read and yes again, those are the more expensive ones although I did not check to see their "fun" bar, I was expecting to see an increase in skill - this time I will expect to see improvements in the writing skill. So now my journalist/author Sim ought to do some reading. pronto!  ;D
