Honestly I'm not sure why. With WA it should be easy enough, I'm just a little intimidated with the challenges. Plus I don't have generations so I'm not sure about the chemistry challenges.

I already have fishing as an open skill for anyone, so can't change that.
I'm planning on having gen 3 supermax painting and then max guitar just for the LTW.
No LN for me so the instruments are not an option.

For inventing I've read from other dynasties that it's hard to supermax and max the career.
And I'm just going with the skills I know best. I would like to finish on my first try. (knock on wood)

I think you should reconsider Charisma for generation 8.  That is one that I left open for all generations because it made getting the best friends requirement so much easier.  By the time Charisma is maxed, your Sim has a best friend at the first introduction.

That does make sense. I kinda wanted to save it til the end though so I'd have some politician material.

I think if you start logic as a toddler it won't be too terrible - in my Max Skills Marathon challenge, I skilled up Logic using the chemistry set and the telescope, and when I hit Logic 10, I had 7 potions and 17 stars discovered; finishing those challenges off took hardly any time at all at that point. Either of those activities can be done as a child, plus you can get a nice head-start on the skill (which will make discovering potions and stars go a little faster) with the pegbox and logic books as a toddler. You can also prevent other family members from raising Logic, so for the skill-tutoring requirement it shoudl be safe to spend 5-6 hours apiece tutoring other family members in Logic - and if you use it for 7th gen, you'll have your own child to tutor.

Athletics is easy, if you've still got the skill available - it's just a total slog. I feel like I'm cracking the whip on the poor sim: "Okay, boy, back on the treadmill!" For what it's worth, on the treadmill, you jog about 10 km/hour, so if you use the treadmill you rack up both jogging distance and cardio hours, and you'll get the Marathon Runner challenge at about 50 hours. I don't think you get cardio hours if you jog on the sidewalk.

And I agree with Pam about leaving Charisma open - unlike Handiness, you can't stop them from increasing the skill, but it makes getting the best friend requirement sooooooo much easier. And the Politician career is easy enough to max out that you should be able to pull it off while supermaxing another skill other than Charisma - my politician did Handiness for her supermax.

Riding as a Supermax?
« Reply #79 on: November 09, 2011, 07:44:51 PM »
I've not had time to run my test file on the subject to completion, and I'm not sure if this is better discussed here (because it's Pets-specific), or the Supermax thread (because it's about the viability of a skill as a supermax skill), but I thought I'd just put it out here...
How is Riding as a supermax skill? Assuming a sim who starts as a teenager, can it be supermaxed before death? Have you done it, and if so, what are some tips?

My only tip is that if you have limited house-space, you can reach your horse friends requirement by buying a horse, befriending it, maybe training it, and selling it -- over and over again with different horses. It helps with a horseman/woman career, too.

If there's an actual SuperMax thread, I think this belongs there.  I don't recall for sure if there is one.

It was to bump that thread up so I could find it easily when I did the merge.  ;D

Oh okay that makes sense.

On topic now, how are the new skills that came with pets supermaxing wise?

The only new skill for Sims that came in Pets is the Riding skill.  It has four challenges that will make it a SuperMaxed Skill.

1.  Equestrian Champion - Have won at least 20 Equestrian Center competitions at the Advanced or International level.
2.  Mustang Master - Have adopted at least three wild horses.
3.  Horse Friend - Have been Best Friends with at least 10 horses.
4.  Rider of Legends - Must win all three types of Equestrian Center competitions at the International level.

It seems like to me that that would be a good skill to pursue in a dynasty because you can supermax it and then you will get the 6 best friend requirements as well. Killing two birds with one stone.

Handiness CAN be a pain (as it relies on luck for the repairing dig)
I'm in week 5 or 6 now and all I've had to repair is 4 sinks (no electricals yet)
If you're a hacker though, then you can whack up the electrical fairly easy (as getting a virus is fairly common then you can repair it)

Athletic, also fairly easy (if you've got the determination for it) - all my sim did (firefighter) was go to work and then onto the treadmill

Martial arts can be a pain - especially the "grand master" and the 150hours of meditation (done it, but also a "any spare time was spent doing it" thing)

Cooking is difficult once the "hardly hungry" reward is purchased, but otherwise it's fairly easy (just get the books from WA then sell most of the gems that you find for easy money for Ambrosia)

Getting to the top of the inventor career is annoying (you need to make SO much) but is fairly easy once you've got to level 10 (and invented everything)
My guy was just making smashers all day for that achievement (the 250 widgets one)
The simbot takes a while, but helps if you've got a gardener sim (fortunately, the pink diamond appears on map view when it's spawned)
Tip: dig through the trash then detonate it (and collect) for TONNES of scrap (especially after the 1000 scrap challenge is complete) - you get about 300+ scrap per time

Gardening is fairly easy, but it turns into a fulltime job eventually (started at 5am, finished tending garden by 8pm, eat.... rinse repeat) - get a sprinkler ASAP (cuts the load from 6am to midday)

Charisma - had challenges with that but the "observant" LTR is massive (and the 100 jokes is a pain)

Cooking is simple. Just cook a ton of meals then throw them away.

For repairing handiness a trick is to put broken objects in family inventory to save them for when you have a sim that will supermax handiness
