True, but I've been wanting to keep Athletics open to give my sims more activity options. It's really frustrating how many fun things (playing catch, for example, or hopscotch, or swimming) raises athletics. I think my current plan is to have fishing as that sim's back-up, especially since it can be worked on when she's a child so I can go as close to the line with it as possible, and not worry about guitar at all.

Maybe I missed something about the rules of the dynasty challenge, but why does one sim SuperMaxing Athletics keep other sims from learning it?  I though the only requirement is that each sim have a new, unique SuperMaxed skill when they become immortal?

They can learn it, but they cannot go past level 9 to level 10. It can be really difficult if you let your other sims get the athletic skill that high, because they might accidentally get to level 10, in which case you fail your dynasty attempt.

Yeah chuckles is right. It's best just to not let other sims learn that skill at all.

A thing I find for supermaxing skills is that taking a class isn't necessary nor does it help.

Yeah try and keep everyone one else away from skilling objects.
For painting and sculpting if you leave a half finished painting or sculpture the other Sims cannot use the skill items.
Lock skill equipment behind locked doors that only the skilling Sim has access to.
So that other Sims cannot get any logic skill points buy the house one of the cheaper computers that you cannot play chess on.
Don't let them have a television. It is surprising how often they learn skills watching the T.V.
Buy an item that several Sims can play at once.Shuffleboard or dartboard is good. You need to get those elderly immortals out of your hair.
Be careful about field trips they can gain skill points by visiting certain places such as the bistro.

First of all, how easy is martial arts to supermax?

And also, I find that not having anybody supermax fishing helps because then you can put the whole household across the street at the pond and not have to worry about them while they are fishing.

It's extremely easy, that's the first skill I've ever supermaxed in the game.

As imaGleek said, martial arts is easy to supermax.  Unless you get travel bugs (as I did in my dynasty), in which case I'd definitely choose something else.  The other thing to consider with martial arts is that Sims build athletic skill while doing martial arts, so it may mean that the athletic skill cannot be a supermax skill for another immortal.

Wow, long post warning . . .

Ok.

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Mixology.    It looks daunting, but it's not really that hard with a bit of effort.

I'm doing that in my Dynasty.  You can't start until teen, but once you do, the only really hard challenges there are serving 60 sims (so drag the family with you to the bars and get them to order) and the 42 custom drinks. (Take the observant reward and you'll usually learn them 1rst or 2nd try.)

See,  once they're a teen, have them make drinks until they can make skill gain drinks. Then drink those to boost their learning time.  Once they can make new custom drinks, get them to make those -- they'll still be boosting their Mixology skill, and not leaving drink platters everywhere!  Once you finish that challenge, go back to making mood drinks. The skill gain drinks will help out anyone, so they're actually really useful.  The energy drinks too, since they've basically replaced coffee for my Dynasty.

After that, just have them make as many mood drinks as possible until they're a Young Adult. Then send them to different bars to moonlight and learn custom drinks.  The 200 mood drink challenge will probably already be finished, and they can learn drink recipes while moonlighting. If you've got a shortage of patrons, just send the family or friends with them.

My Mixologist is a few days away from Adult, and the only challenges I've got left are; the 42 custom drinks one, which I only need one or two more drinks for, and the 500 drinks one, which considering I'm at 400-something, shouldn't be too hard.

The only real problem I found with Supermaxing Mixology is it doesn't tie in easily to a career.  My Mixologist is also a stylist, I can easily also see something like Mixologist/Buisness.  Also, (and this may just be me, not sure) I'm not getting Mixology Opportunities in Sunset Valley, so I'm having to use her backup skill (painting) for the opportunities.

Relatively Easy.

Just make sure you can still travel, since you -have- to do the tournament in China.  I was going to have someone Supermax Martial Arts, but since I can't travel in my dynasty any more, that's out.

Though Athletics is a nice backup.

The other thing to consider with martial arts is that Sims build athletic skill while doing martial arts, so it may mean that the athletic skill cannot be a supermax skill for another immortal.

The only exception to this being Meditation, which does not raise the Athletics skill.

I don't know if it's possible to complete the Martial Arts skill challenges (I'm specifically thinking of the one to break 150 boards), without maxing Athletics.   The last sims I did that with had the Physical Perfection Lifetime want, so I didn't care if they maxed athletics too.  I'd be worried that you can't do the sparring and board-breaking challenges without getting Lvl 10 athletics. Hmm. . . something to test, I suppose?

Moodlet Manager and you can do it but it is much easier to max Athletic first. I maxed Athletic after Martial Arts. If you do Martial Arts it would be safer not to plan around another Sim doing Athletic, if you manage it without maxing then as long as you keep that Sim away from Radios, TVs, Pools and any other Athletic gaining activities then I guess you'd be fine.

Okay. I'm having martial arts open as a back up just in case my founder accidentally maxes athletic.

For me I only have to think of 1 superman skill, because my others are already decided:
1. Gardening
2. Cooking
3. Painting
4. Sculpting
5. Writing
6. Handiness
7. OPEN
8. Charisma

My first choice for #7 would be athletic, then martial arts or nectar making. I'm a little leery of trying nectar making in my dynasty thought because I've never done it before.

Athletic is very easy.  I did nectar making for my Gen 7 supermax, and I'd never done nectar making either but it was also quite easy.  The only thing about nectar making (when I did it) was that one of the skill challenges was bugged - the one where you have to use a certain number of bunches of homegrown grapes.  Vizard of vine?  Something like that.  Anyway, that was a while back and I'd like to think it's been fixed by now, but what I did was keep track of the bunches of grapes my nectar maker used and when I was certain I was over the required number, Metro let me count it.

Question: If you have WA, do seeds or fruits picked up in the travel locations count towards the 19-different-plant challenge for Gardening? Did they increase the number of required plant types to go with the increased number of available plants?

It counts towards it. That was the only way I supermaxed gardening in my dynasty.

Sportsfan,

I'm trying to figure out why you've decided to avoid logic?  In my Grims Dynasty, I'm actually one challenge away from being supermaxed and she's close to elder but I let her slack a lot in her child/teen years.  It's actually really easy as long as you know what you're getting into.  I think having level 10 logic before finding any stars helped big time with that.  I leveled to 10 via chemistry set, book and maybe a couple of hours at the telescope when I was working on another sim.  Unless someone has maxed it, I would also try to keep fishing as a backup.  I was going to do guitar for the Steels dynasty but I messed up using the xylophone and then letting him go to music club.  I have Late Night so it increased drums, bass and piano skill to 3, too which meant that there was no way I was going to supermax guitar with other skills available.   I would also consider inventing.  Unless you're playing in bridgeport, you might be able to supermax it without maxing handiness.   Coriander Steel has supermaxed inventing and is currently holding at level 9 handiness.  He's not allowed near his inventing table or to repair anything but so far so good on holding handiness off in case I have another traveling problem.  Just suggestions.
