ICan I supermax it without vacation time (I don't have WA, and I think that's why I've been blessedly bug-free with the last couple patches)? Should I start with the chemistry set and hope to get the sleeping elixir potion early on?
Really, it's one if the best things in Generations  ;D Start on potion asap. The Logic challenges are not that hard neither that long I think. The celestial bodies is maybe the one which takes more time or is more risky (beware the meteor shower). Maybe the skill level influences the odds of discovering something? So reach first level 10 with one of the other challenges (potions...).

Regarding logic as a supermax if you can travel that will also help you out since the only logic thing you can't do there is tutoring children, if you have a vacation home...

Hrm. Running a test: I started with a toddler with three points of Peg Box, aged him up to child, and got going on the chemistry set - basically, the kid took care of needs, went to school, did homework, and played with the chemistry set. By the end of the week he had 7.5 points of logic and 6 potions discovered. This might not be as hard as I thought, especially if high logic skill makes it easier to discover stuff with the telescope. (I've worked out a strategy/schedule. It'll still be a serious grind, but not as absolutely impossible as I thought.)

I agree that travel would make it a lot easier, but given that most of the big game-breaking bugs people have reported seem to be related to travel, WA isn't even on my "to-buy" list until I hear it's fixed, which might be never at present rate.

I feel that writing is the easiest to supermax. Maybe because I play a writer so much.

I think that one is second easiest. I think painting is by far the easiest to supermax.

If you do small paintings, it is pretty easy, yes.

On the other hand, I think the musical skills are hardest to supermax. It has to do with the Star challenges, where you have to complete opportunities.

These are the skills I have supermaxed:

Athletic:very easy the challenges can be completed without much effort on the players part.
Charisma:Looks daunting but is quite easy it is especially good at the end of an immortal dynasty when your family will know a lot of people.
Cooking:Again an easy one .Your Sim should complete the challenges without really trying. Just make sure that they do all the cooking plus once you get the good fridge all the dishes they prepare will last your dynasty family for generations.
Fishing:In my opinion the easiest skill to supermax.
Handiness:I ended up supermaxing this when I realised that my inventor was never going to supermax inventing as I had a household of eight Sims and no room for a Simbot. Again this is pretty easy to do.
Logic:This is in my opinion one of the harder skills to supermax. You really need to start working on it in the child years to get all the skill challenges done. I was also a nervous wreck every time my Sim went near a telescope.
Painting:Really easy I had immortals and mortals supermax this skill.Plus as a bonus your painter Sim will go and paint without you telling them to,
Sculpting:Yet again an easy one can be boring to watch but most of the skilling is boring to watch. The only thing you have to watch out for is your Sim setting fire to himself when sculpting with metal.
Writing:Easy, boring to watch but easy to supermax.

My biggest tip when it comes to supermaxing a skill is to start working on it as soon as your Sim is able.
Painting:Read the toddler all the painting books they will start at level three painting as a child.
Inventing:Can be worked on as a child.
Sculpting:Not able to work on till teen years.
Writing:Can be started as a child.
Logic:Have toddlers use the peg box.
Handiness:Have children play with the blocks to build handiness.
Music:Have toddlers use the xylophone.
Cooking:Have the child play with the toy oven.
Fishing:Can be started as a child.

My brain has stopped working now.

I vaguely recall learning some of these prior to you saying them, but I had forgotten. I never knew children could invent, and I always end up missing the chance to read the books to my toddlers.

Your tips will be put into good use. ;)

Another tip, to avoid missing reading them the books and get really good screenshots and a thousand "awww"s, read them the books before bedtime. It's such a cute animation. Works for children too. ;)
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

What's easier to supermax and get to the top of the self employment career, painting or sculpting?

Okay thanks. I'm more comfortable with painting anyway. It's the one immortal in my dynasty that I know I don't need to worry about.
