Is Generations Worth Getting?
« on: June 26, 2011, 04:27:27 PM »
Hey folks!

I've been making myself wait on getting the new sims 3 expansion but when I found out about all the cool stuff in it, its been hard to resist. This may be a dumb question, but are there a ton of glitches? Multiple answers are welcome because I want to know different experiences. As much as I love the sims, it can cause nothing but trouble and disappointment with the glitches and problems. I've been told waiting until they come out with the more updated version (and wait for the others to get off the shelf) is the best. I had a bad experience with the late night expansion because my computer wasn't up to par for the graphics- and I had to wait and get my computer ready for the game (I'm pretty sure my computer is good now). So any feedback would be appreciated.. please include negatives and the really awesome positives. Thanks!  :D

Well, I had little to no glitches/bugs personally. The most common is body hair not sticking, but it only occurs sometimes. Other bugs are connected to new activities, but also happen in normal quantities. Most of the problems people are having are technical, though. Of course, what you have been told is the correct - in time patches are released to fix problems aka glitches, but if you choose to wait, then be warned that they are released nearly once in two-three months. The next one will probably arrive on July 26, when the new stuff pack is released.

My opinion of Generations is very positive. It adds some nifty features - do I need to mention any? I have Late Night and the other EPs too, and so far so good. I am having fun with the new Edit In CAS cheat, personally. If you have the money and wish to get Generations, then go for it. Besides the glitches, it is great. :)
Well, that's your opinion, isn't it? And I'm not about to waste my time trying to change it. - Lady GaGa

Hi,
Haven,'t had any major glitches. I like the new EP, but, having played it, I realize that you need to expand the teen years a bit, because if they want to do pranks and learn to drive and do after  school activities, there's not much time.

I would reccomend getting Generations. There's cool new features, clothing, and above all: fun!
I haven't had any major problems except for a few glitches (kids not going to after school activities, and teen proposed marriage to teen at prom), but they weren't anything major, except for the last glitch. ::)
Aside from the glitches, I'd reccomend getting it.

Well I'm a 'feet first' sort of person so take my advice with a grain of salt if you tend to be conservative.  I will never wait till anything is patched or 'safe' because you could be waiting forever and you will miss out on all the fun to be had when everyone else is discovering the new stuff along with you.  I love Generations and I haven't really explored half of it yet.  I didn't think I would like it - it sounded so silly to me with all the pranks and the teen parties.  I remembered the pranks in Sims 2 and how annoying they were.  However, it is much better done in Sims 3 and I am laughing along with my rebellious and moody sim teen as she blunders along, melting down one day and on top of the world the next. The adjustable age span is wonderful.  My favourite age groups can now live amazing long lives while the ones I am less fond of are soon over.  I could have done without the memories though.  I don't know what EA was thinking there.  My advice would be to delete them once you get over seeing how many toilets your sim has unblocked and save your hood from bloat.

I think it's wonderful. It really does make you live each age to the fullest. But the thing that really hit me was how it adds to each other EP. Going to a Hotspot, and just randomly adding a stink bomb. I like how you have new options to choose from clothing, the hoddies are nice! My favorite year is the Teens. It so fun! Teen Parties, all the awesome pranks around the neiborhood, Prom and then Graduation! The after school activities help your sim improve in a lot of skills; for example if you want yours to be a Rock Star the music club is great, my Sim learned about 5 skills of each instrument. The Boarding Schools, that I did have a little glitch with, one of my Sims came home and never when back.
When your Sim enters young adulthood is nice. I love how they have to ask for their hand in marriage. But watch out, better have a good relationship with his/her parents. (Learned that the hard way.) Ooh! The Barcholette/Barcholet parties are awesome! And then getting married at a wonderful wedding. They added the Wedding Arch and Wedding Cake. How the guest sit and cry and then clap and throw rice at the Sim in front of them (not literally it just looks like it) is funny. Midlife crisis are hilarious! You get some random wishes, but I don't like how my Sim is 24/7 looking at her/him self in the mirrow or pushing the tummies because they thing they are fat or have many wrinkles. But I love it. I honestly didn't think I would like it.  I saw it focused in Children Sims and honestly I almost never have children in the games. But it's actually worth it.

Chemistry makes this addition to the series so fun and practical for me, and the pranks are really awesome, I 100% recommend this!

I had quite a lot of nasty bugs with Generations myself, but once I installed [name of mod removed - Schipperke] to fix the  bugs, it has been great.

Haha - thanks for the all the posts! I honestly didn't think to get many responses because it is sorta a silly question but I'm soo excited ;D. I just wanted the over-all feedback of the game which seems to be a "go for it!!" I do think I will dive in it, Figwit :P. Honestly, I don't usually patch my games anyways and deal with the *usually* minor glitches as they come because patches can create problems in themselves. I laughed when I read the glitch about teens proposing to each other -  ::) too realistic but if the game is so cool and recommended, it isn't something to mind. I heard the memories could get definitely annoying, but I missed that from Sims 2!
