I've had some live to be only 90 days and others live to be 100.Most of my sims have maxed out their athletic skill by then(I have heard that this helps prolong lifespans)but I am not so sure about that.Most of the time they max out at around 96 days and then they die.

The athletic Skill is only the first stage. Under the skill guide, there are challeneges. The Marathon Runner Challenge (500km) helps you to live longer.

*How do we actually know when a Sim's Life Span is extended? I think the game may be like normal Older people die younger if they were slobs who weren't very healthy and may get diseases. Old people who die older were often healthy and fit.

What's his lifespan setting?

I'm not sure.....where do you check that?

Mummies live approximately 5 times longer than normal sims, and my mummy has 125 days until he becomes an adult from young adult (on normal setting)!

Athletic skill per se doesn't affect lifespan, athletic marathon runner challenge does (tho one is likely to max athletic while getting it). Lifespan settings can be seen under options.

*Sigh* Let's bring out the actual math (this was done prior to WA, so mummies aren't taken into account):
Quote from: Marhis from MATY
According to the code, Elders' minimum age is 2.428 multiplied for the constant k[lifespan]SimDaysPerAgingYear, which is 2 for Short, 4 for Medium, 7 for Normal, 15 for Long, 75 for Epic.

This means the minimum age in days for Elders should be:

    * 4.856 for Short lifespan (25 days total)
    * 9.712 for Medium lifespan (50 days total)
    * 16.996 for Normal lifespan (90 days total)
    * 36.42 for Long lifespan (190 days total)
    * 182.1 for Epic lifespan (970 days total)

After this minimum, each day there's a probability the elder will die, as follows:

    * 30% for Short lifespan
    * 20% for Medium lifespan
    * 14% for Normal lifespan
    * 6% for Long lifespan
    * 3% for Epic lifespan

The only modifier I found is for elder marathon runners (athletic challenge), which have their daily chance of dying multiplied for 0.75 - for example 10.5% instead of 14% in case of Normal lifespan.
Unless there's something else hardcoded elsewhere, this seems to be the only thing that affects lifespan.

It's the setting you have under Options from the Main Menu.  Short, Normal, Long, and Epic are the choices.

I've done a little research on this,since I play legacies and always have an elder or 2 in the house.The capper seems to be 96 days for me,even if they complete the marathon runner challenge.I have no idea why 96 days seems to be my maximum......I play with lifespan on normal,and they all have their athletic skill maxed out....maybe I should try making them vegetarians as well.I have to admit,though,that by 96 days I am pretty much ready for them to kick it anyway.My bad......

Well, it's all about probability. On normal settings, sims have the following chances of reaching at least [Age]:

TG, how did you get your columns so nice and straight? Did you just copy and paste from another app? That's the way I'd like challenge leaderboards to look.

EDIT: Nevermind, I quoted your post and saw all of the table codes. Carl's told me about those too. I'll have to experiment with that.

Using the table thingy. It did bothered me that there doesn't seem to be an option to make tables with borders and such, or at least it's not documented on the help area.
Other than that, i used opencalc to calculate the data and then to spew the code via concatenate formula, like this:
Code: [Select]
=CONCATENATE("
"; A3;"";TRUNC(B3;1);"%";TRUNC(C3;1);"%
")

Remember that you can always quote my post and see how it was built ^_^.
NVM, you found out.

We've been threatening to use the table function on the forum for ages and just never did.  Thanks for showing how great it works!

How long do your Sims typically live? By that, I mean old age.

I just had a couple sims turn to Elder. Is it any time at this point? What changes their death age?

On normal Life span they will die around age 90.

You're a little late to the party by quoting the very first post. Tons of info has been thrown out in this thread.

I recently had a sim live to 115. She wasn't a marathon runner or a vegetarian. There didn't seem to be any reason for her to keep living, but she DID have the lucky trait. I wonder if that gave he an increased chance of not dying?
