Law Enforcement — Reports Written
« on: October 04, 2009, 01:33:38 PM »
I'm wondering if there are any traits I could assign to a new sim that's going to pursue Law Enforcement that would assist with Reports Written. Developing the Writing skill seems natural, but I don't know if that's a true correlation or if it's just a matter of going out to sims in the community and questioning them. Does anyone know what would help Reports Written?

Just be friends with them and question them or go to their house and find their trashcan and dig through it.
Once you got the info about the sim, you can then write a report about them.
The report will take about 1.5 hours to complete.

Yeah at least it's not nearly as challenging as journalism, where I never could get an article to be very high quality. At least not reliably.

So, from what the two of you have said, it sounds like there is no trait I can give a sim to make the Reports Written any better, right? It's just a question of going out and doing them?

Yeah I don't think I had any trouble maxing that metric out. It's more a volume thing.

With articles it's quantity and quality.

Thanks, Carl. Even though I think a combined Music career couple would have the best revenue of the 3 options in the new Centurian's Couple Challenge, I'm kind of burned out on guitar players at the moment. So, I'll do a "Mr and Mrs Smith" kind of a thing for that challenge. The Net Worth won't be near what writers and painters can do in the solo challenge, but it should still be fun.

I have found that the Charismatic trait and skill help with the interview part of the reports.  When your charisma gets to a high enough level, the subject of the interview will agree to it after a charismatic introduction.  Without charisma, you will often be refused the interview at first until you spend a lot more time with the them.

Edit:  After seeing Metro's update, I can't say that I've actually been able to get the Law Enforcement Lifetime Wish with the Charismatic trait present.  If not, then learning the Charisma skill will be good for conducting interviews anyway.

Aha thanks for clarifying that, Pam. I forgot that you do need to soften them up, so charismatic and/or friendly are going to be definitely helpful.

Ah, good tip, Pam. Thanks.

I've got one more Law Enforcement question — so, I'l just add it here instead of starting a new thread. The Prima Guide says the Brave trait is good for the Law Enforcement career. Makes sense, but why? There's no metric for promotion that would indicate this.

I've read this about a few traits and careers. I think it's hidden and helps the performance bar increase faster.

Hmmm....interesting. I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. You only have 5 traits to assign, so it's is so important to pick the right ones — especially in a challenge. Right now, for the Forensic sim I'm thinking: Logic, Artistic, and Overemotional. For the Special Agent: Logic, Athletic, and Overemotional. I can't really decide on the other 2 traits and what would help in the Couple's Challenge the most.

I'd pick workaholic over some "reputed" boost any day. Workaholic has a definite boost.

Ooh ooh ambitious too. Why? well, it'll help get raises faster since it's a money challenge. When they reach the top level they can get the bar up, ask boss for raise and reliably get it. Help with all the wishes they complete too!

Ambitious and Workaholic sound good. Thanks, Carl. I'm off to create Mr. and Mrs Smith. I'm pretty sure my sims won't look as good as Brad and Angelina.  :D

Ugh. The traits I gave the female: Genius, Artistic, Ambitious, Workaholic, and Overemotional will not roll the proper Law Enforcement Lifetime Wish. Boo Hoo.

That's probably a good thing, Metro.  Not everyone thinks Brad and Angelina are that great.  Heh.

I'm doing an International Super Spy Sim at the moment and I gave him the Brave and Daredevil traits to go along with Athletic, Genius, and Charismatic.  I don't have a good reason for doing so.  They just felt like good traits for a spy.  :D
