Honestly, I think that's normal. I've gotten around it by inviting the prospective spouse to move into my household before the wedding - that way I get to invite their friends, too, and I have full control over the wardrobe of both participants.

Tried to redo my wedding and had another disaster. Everything was fine up to the point of cutting the cake. Right at that moment, the bride's best friend died and everyone left.

I was worried my first attempt at a Generations wedding was going to be a disaster. I created a Wedding Lot on a blank community lot to use. I had the party set to start at 3 PM. A few hours before that the couple got a party invite. Turns out the father of the groom was having a party at 6 PM! I declined, but was worried his father wouldn't be there. He did show up, but around the time his party was to start he changed into casual, which was the dress code of his party. He didn't leave though, but he did call late and said that he missed the couple from his party even though they were all still on the community lot. The father of the bride arrived and instantly got back into his car and left. But he did return in time for the ceremony. Then shortly before going home for the night the happy couple performed a couple of romantic interactions and I got a notification that the bride should stop, something about people talking. When I looked she had a naughty reputation. It still counts her "romantic interest" with a teen from when she was in school. The couple met in school and she asked him to prom, then asked him to go steady. For some reason it still counted the other as active even after she aged. I have aging off so the other guy is still a teen.

All in all it was a big sucess. I enjoy the new weddings. I also like how you can have a sim ask their partners parents for their approval before getting married.
