But the purpose of the residents is to interact with your Sims.

Tell me about it, have any of you noticed how half of the neighborhood stalk you like a bunch of Mossad agents every time your sims go out?.
And continuously getting in the way too, causing your sim to do his/hers silly foot taping tantrums again and again...

Yeah.. they're really not good at the mossad thing. Guess they're CIA then.

Ever since I got WA, I have noticed that story progression seems less borked. Maybe it is just my game, maybe I am just lucky, but I have had no more random babies spawn in my single guy's and girl's houses, and I have one saved neighborhood that I jump around quite a bit in. One thing they really need to work on is Sims getting promotions without the neccesary skills to do so. I had one CAS Sim who made it to line cook with only 2 cooking points. I had only left her house for a few sim days.
I am hoping that they fix some of these things with future expansions because I get bored playing the same house day after day because I am afraid to leave for fear the game will do something hateful to them while I am gone.

Wasn't there a patch not too long ago that said one of the issues it fixed is that single sims would no longer suddenly acquire mystery babies while in Story Progression mode?  I might be remembering wrong.

I'm just waiting for the patch that stops my favorite sims from relocating to Jupiter or wherever!

Yup they came out with a patch after the base game was released.  It was crazy, little old sim man living by himself and he would have a baby. :P

There's very little of that nuttiness now, but I did notice the other day when I was mousing over houses from map view, there's still babies and toddlers being left at home alone.  I thought fixing story progression would fix this as well. :-\

I feel very lucky so far, (crossing fingers) as the game has pretty much left my simmies where I left them.  ;D

Normally I enjoy the new story progression that has Sims moving around and out of town.  But for some reason, my extended family has left town twice!  I move them into a vacant house next door to the main house so I can see them easily and they will be close by.  The first family moved from this very nice house to a smaller house across town, so I used Edit Town to move them back next door.  A couple of Sim days later, the house was empty again and this time they moved completely out of town!  It even made the paper.  I can still call and invite them over, but I can't go to their house to visit.  I put a second part of my family in that same house next door and after a few Sim days, they had left town, too!

I thought someone here on the forum said that if it's a family that you've actually played, they won't leave town.  I played both of these families, but they left anyway.  It's annoying because I'm trying to get the family deeply rooted in Sunset Valley.  It's bad enough when they don't have children of their own, but then the ones who DO have babies move away!  Argh!!!

It's interesting that they could move after you've controlled them. Bummer though that they didn't live up to your grand master plan for the future! ;)

Yeah, I've noticed this a lot more often too Pam.  It's quite frustrating.

I also don't like it when I have a male sim that had babies with a female in another house, and then the female and babies move away.  Although I can understand why it happened a lot during my "challenge" where I tried to have as many babies as possible because obviously I expanded the population in a dramatic way... but still.

I don't have mystery babies anymore, but I do find babies in houses of my sims that at least have fathers, but they are not even romantically involved, they are friends, but that is as far as it had gone.  For the most part, story progression isn't too bad, except like Pam said, you put them in a house and then a couple of sim days later they are gone.  I have not had mine move out of town yet though.

I got the second family back into that house next door.  I invited one of them to come visit, then asked her to move in.  I got the option to move the whole family in, which I did.  then I moved them (again) to the house next door.  Keeping my fingers crossed that they will stay there this time.

Let me know how that works, I think I tried something similar to that after this family had moved out so many times and it didn't work, I think I just moved one in and then moved her back.  It doesn't really bother me any more, that is a challenge in itself. lol :D
