Spell check is for the week
« on: June 20, 2011, 06:23:31 PM »
It's a secret a sim can tell to another sim. It seems to be a joke. I don't get this joke.

You told a sim to share a secret with another sim, and the pop-up window said "Spell check is for the week"? I don't get it.

The correct spelling in that sentence should be "weak", not week.  Weak as in not strong.  It is not talking about the days of the week.
Ignorance is not an excuse, please read the forum rules.

Ok, now I get it. Still, it would be funnier if they made it "Spell check are for the weak". Irony = Fun.

Language issue perhaps? I still don't get it.

The sentence "Spell check is for the week" only makes sense if you spell it 'weak'. Which makes it funny, because the sentence about spell check, needs a spell check. Does that make sense Leto?

Leto, it's actually a really bad joke, one that makes you groan out loud!  :D

In the joke 'weak' has been misspelt as 'week'. 'Weak' means lacking physical strength or power, whilst 'week' is, erm, you know the calander, 7 days make a week. So the joke is saying that you need a spell check but it is not for the strong and powerful but for those that are lacking strength.

As I said, a bad joke!

Plus, it's a mistake that wouldn't actually be caught by spell check, since "weak" and "week" are both perfectly valid words. I'm not sure if that makes the joke more or less funny.

Well, I had to read it twice, but yes: it made total sense now. And even more after reading Malteser's and Cathylknits's posts. Thank you ladies!
