My last suggestion would be to plant a new plant and see if it will bump up to perfect fruit.  I've had to do that a few times.

Also, with the sprinklers, you don't have to upgrade them to use them.  I turn mine on and just leave them on all the time.  It doesn't hurt anything and it's kind of pretty.
Yeah, I've bought sprinklers, and upgraded them. It's definitely something to do with the plant or the game, not my care for the plants.

With the Super Green Thumb Trait, planting a seed should increase its quality level to the next.
So planting outstanding level plants will give you perfect straight away.
If you dont have Super Green Thumb then you will have to rely on luck to get perfect.

JMZ, I don't know that anyone is trying to insult you or imply that you are stupid.  You've asked a question and people are just trying to figure it out.  Sure, tending the garden might seem like a no-brainer, but that doesn't mean that everyone knows that it can have an impact on plant quality as well as, say, harvest quantity.

I read a post over the weeked (might have been an old post, I sometimes dig back when I'm bored) from someone who couldn't figure out why they were not getting some prepare meal options for things the sim definately knew the recipe for.  Turns out it they were missing the no-cook meals, and were clicking on the stove to make them rather than the 'fridge.  Missing this little detail didn't make them stupid, it was just an oversight.  And if you are asking for help with an issue, I hope that you don't get too upset if someone askes about the little oversights people can make.

For what it's worth, I think that getting a plant upgrade from a seed or fruit without the Super Green Thumb reward or trait is just random luck.  Since you say this is on a sime that does have that, I honestly don't have a clue.

Thanks for your insight tealeaf, and I guess I should have made my first post more clear that I'm doing everything I have thought of and my real question was "Is this normal?" instead of "What am I doing wrong?". Well, I guess I'll just have to plant one of my outstanding fruits, oh well. Thanks for all the responses.

As soon as you plant the outstanding fruit it will be kicked up a notch. That's what it does for me. I planted a nice vegtable and it grew to be "very nice" so maybe you should try planting first. Besides if its the fast growing kind (apples) you should figure out very quickly if its perfect or not.

Even if it wasn't the fast growing kind, you can hover the mouse over the plant and it will tell you what quality it is, even if it is still in the planted stage.

EDIT: Sorry about the cut-off, it must have been an error or something with the posting. It was something I was to suggest, but now it completely skipped my mind...

Uh two things. One, for some reason, your post got randomly cut off it seems. Two, yeah my plants ALWAYS produce one quality higher than what they are, well except for this one time.

jmz, I think the bottom line here is it's either a) a fluke, or b) an incredibly rare occurrence and you were the lucky recipient. Kinda like when I mentioned Zeus was electrocuted in the nectar challenge when he was repairing the nectar maker, despite the fact that he was handy. If your Sim is a lvl 10 gardener AND has green thumb reward, then by all means as soon as you plant an Outstanding plant in the ground, you should mouse over it and see that it's Perfect. Does that mean it's going to happen 100% of the time. Looks like apparently not. But, the vast majority of the time that should happen. Incidentally, this also happened to me in the nectar challenge. It was rare, but it did happen where Zeus or Hera would plant an Outstanding plant and it would not base up after being planted.

Good to know. Thanks for all the input everyone, I think I know what to do now.

I know this thread hasn't been updated in a while, but just to throw in my own experience, fertilizer both shortens the growing time to maturity and it increases the number of harvestables that are one level higher than the plant.  If I have a Great plant and it is unfertilized, it will not produce Excellent fruit (unless I talk to it).

Also, fertilizer appears to boost the quantity of the harvest.  Three harvestables is standard until the plant is in its last days of life.  If I fertilize, the plant will occasionally produce a fourth fruit, and more of the fruits will be one level higher than the plant.

I am having the same problem. I have my skills to 10 and do not neglect my garden but I can't get perfect plants to grow only a few their all just stuck at outstanding. Have the super green tumb everything I need.

Don't you need your life fruit to be perfect to make the ambrosia? I need help.. I really am confused here. How do we get those perfect plants. I  just keep planting outstanding ones, but they stay at outstanding not perfect.. Do we fertilize with outstanding fish, crops etc?

Read the guide still confused.

I do not think Ambriosa requires perfect ingredients, Perfect is the best so it will not be easy! Just keep replanting some of the harvestables from those plants and talk to them, water them, fertilize them with the best quality fertilizer you can etc.

Like samoht said, you don't need perfect ingredients for Ambrosia.  Any Life Fruit and Deathfish will work.

Gia, are you deleting the outstanding plants and replanting them?  Or are you trying to coax the same ones up to Perfect?  If it were me, I'd delete all of the Outstanding plants and plant them all again using Outstanding fruits.  There's really no concrete reason why you wouldn't be able to get Perfect plants.
